Wheeling a folded Brompton without rack or mudguards.
 

Can a brompton be rolled folded on the front wheel instead of the rear rollers?

I have a 5 speed brompton with dahon andres stem extender.(See brompton with dahon andros stem advise thread) Unfolding the dahon stem puts a lot of pressure on rack so I have removed the rack and I prefer the looks and lightness with out it.
Bike balances ok without rack unless loaded, and I don't want to go for mudguards to mount wheels on as that will be more easily stressed than the rack.

Can the Brompton be wheeled on the front wheel folded?

I have tried this and the only problem seemed to be the IHG toggle chain catching on the spokes. I could use a front mech and a 2 speed drayler to get a 4 speed.

If I went for a single speed hub could I wheel it on a combination of front rollers and front wheel ?

I hit the end of the rear suspension block when I tip it up much.. [M3L]


Maybe you need to fit a rack* on the back, with 4 of those yellow wheels..

* have somene fabricate a steel skeleton rack , to carry that extra rear wheel pair..


Reads like your unintended consequences are showing themselves.

Unintended consquences maybe. I got feed up refitting rack and realised better to ditch a rack that does not get used anyway other than a roller carrier.
No I don't want the brompton rack on the bike now, buts its a shame to lose full rolling ability.

When I tilt the bike up it clears the suspension block so its ok.

Yellow wheels are "kuzak netminder wheels",not just any old yellow wheels.

Anyone tried it?

I am also aware that the brakes may bind when cable folded, but I would just fit a qr if that was the case.

Just went the EZ wheel route .. Ergon GR3 grip/bar ends . (left one scuffs a bit, folded when touching the Ground.. )


Fabricate.. maybe Steve Parry over there has a custom option that will suit your requirements .

I think you got your rack mixed up with the Norwegian Blue, a remarkable bird the Norwegian blue, beautiful plumage.

Yes it looks good against theyellow wheels.

Here is what I supposed is a SP made rear rack that is more minimal than the Original Brompton One.

Note the rear most roller is above the hub axle line.

And I presume its not really there to carry Anything , just mount that extra set of wheels.

The attachment of the rack to a Brommie is one of the areas that make me frustrated with bromptoms;
Adding a less functional, fabricated , expensive, sp skelton rack is a dead parrot.

Removing rear rack and mudguard make the bike look more focused as a performance orientated bike. It also saves a good deal of weight and allows easier access to rear brake etc. I like the fact that it is still practical for commuting by adding the front bag.

I would like to know if any one uses the front wheel to wheel a brommie?

Bi Fri Tiikit is what you want. just buy one .. if you need to roll folded on the front wheel ..


It should be obvious to even the Chronically Dim.. front wheel of Bromton is folded back and reversed
the hook on left fork side tip, hooks over the right rear chainstay ..

Funny that I don't want to swap it for a bike friday. I would like a bike friday but not instead of this bike.

Even to the relatively "chronically dim" the term front wheel is a description not relevant to other coordinates or direction of travel.

Anyway, I only want a bike tikit if it talks, else its hardly a replacement for my parrot. Unless you have a talking slug.

N+1, .. is always less of a space penalty , if it also folds .. :thumb:

the Oregon company has other options in its BTO offerings .. you can get all sorts of parts in the menu ..
3 size frame tubes..

Rohloff 14, or Alfine 11 speed hub and Gates belt drive , A variety of handle bar types , etc.

the seat folds forward , rather than telescopes , so the saddle Height remains un changed ..

+ then .. their folded bike does roll on the front wheel .. there is even a handle within the rear section to grip and steer it.

Tried wheeling the bike with the toggle chain bolt removed, and it seems fine. It is best just on the front wheel and brakes didn't bind.

So I might consider going down the two speed wheel route if I keep the bike. Would prefer to go for brifters working two speed drsaillers and another an steven perry or (cqp??) Front mech mod. Ie four speed using single speed hub.

Its possibly a long term alteration as my mezzo needs finishing first.
And I am enjoying my downtube FS most at moment!!
