My first folder arrived
My Origami Cricket arrived for me yesterday afternoon and overall I'm tentatively happy with it. It has a few scuffs from shipping and a few issues to work out. I'll be taking it to a bike store today or tomorrow for a disc break adjustment along with a full look over. I was able to get some ortlieb panniers for it since I plan to tote around my knitting with me, even on rainy days. I got the smaller front roller version of the panniers so hopefully they won't interfere with my pedaling. I've posted my thoughts and pictures about my initial first impressions here: www.pedalingayarn.com
I'm giving myself a year with this bike, depending on my dedication to the 20miles/week goals and how this bike holds up, I'll most likely look to upgrade then. Since Bike Friday is local to me, I'm going to start there for my upgrade even though I really love the look of the Bromptons. This will be a good starting place at least. Thank you for the information you all share here. I'll be continuing to post questions and comments on my first folder relationship. So far so good. :) |
Hi welcome to the fold.
I personally think the place for this is the "name your bike" thread rather than starting a new thread. Else the origirami bike threads would be better. Anyway hope you enjoy your new bike. |
I like your blog post post. It is interesting to see knitting and folding bicycles comingled. I hope that you enjoy the bike, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Also, your upgrade may be to another Origami bike; we have a new higher-end model coming at the end of October. |
any plans for importing to UK?

Congrats on your new bike. Shame the paint got a bit scuffed though. I hope its not too conspicuous.
Enjoy the bike, and I hope you get many great and fun miles out of it. Cheers Wayne |
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! :)
Paul - LOL! My daughter, who's 6 going on 7 wants a folding bike now too. Please let me know if you get anything that would fit her. I've looked at the Downtube mini's but I don't think they make them anymore. There was one other... the Flamingo... I can't remember the name but there was a youtube video with a little kid that was my daughters age riding it. I did an online search for them a couple weeks ago but couldn't find a dealer for them. The bike shop guy just called and told me my bike is ready to pick up and the disc breaks calibrated just fine btw. Still Pedaling - The worst scuffs were just around the protruding bits that the box didn't protect. If you look at the big photo of the box picture you can see holes in the box. I'm not too torn up about the scratches. I know you worked closely with a local bike shop to get your Brompton but did you get to see what the packaging was like? |
Nice bike! I really like the color, enjoy!

I didn't get to see the packing used for my Brommie as it was already assembled. They had the bike folded and up on a display shelf. As soon as my wife and I saw the color we said -- "That's the one we want". So off the shelf it came, all tuned and spiffed up ready to ride. Keep us posted on how you are enjoying riding the new Cricket, and don't forget to post some pics. Cheers Wayne |

Best bike I have tried for a child was a dahon curve, brake lever reach is more important aspect to bear in mind with children, soft pads an slick cables are esential, ime, if they are going to brake on a folder aimed at an adult. |
Pretty bike. The beaten up box reminds me the opening scene of Ace Ventura : Pet Detective.

Looks oh so snuggly warm. Would love to have a matching outfit for those cold rides. |

That's a cute bike...it looks pretty sturdy too, never heard of that brand before, I can tell your local to bike Friday by the Pine trees in the background of your photo's......I'm in the market for a folder too.

Well, a few details. The new bike has 20" wheels, a seat post tube that is held in the frame (that will make more sense when I post some photos next week), rear suspension, 8 or 16 speed options.
