Well this thread is totally cheering me up! For the record I'm wearing fairly bland bike leggings and tops - not the poseur stuff. Its the right gear for the rain, wind and the cold which happens all year here except for 1 week in June. Most of my commute is wide open roads. And my folder is the most elegant and fun solution to a bunch of commuting problems. I am bloody minded enough to be sure that I'm in the right here. I just had a little moment of idle doubt.
Now as to the pink stuff, pictures would be too disturbing! Worse than Smallwheeler's pic. (Dammit I thought I had burnt that!)
A kilted commute though. That might have to happen sometime..........

Most cycling clothes look horrible. Most cyclists have horrible taste. Mocking people who have horrible taste is acceptable and even, to a point, laudable.

An increasing number of "technical" clothing brands are making attractive clothes that are well-suited to biking. You simply need pants and shorts that have some stretch, so that your seams won't burst before their time, and shirts and jackets that breathe. Do some web searches for blogs that cover such garment makers.

Also, you won't look stupid on a small-wheeled bicycle unless you're fat. If you're fat, lose weight.

I generally wear knickers in the winter and mtb shorts in the summer

I rode a mountain bike in a 100K bike rally and my friends described me as "gangsta" style..lol. I wore exofficio shorts, exofficio long sleeve shirt with the collar up (I'm fair skinned), regular bike helmet with foam visor for shade, and full finger gloves. I also did have a hydration pack. Just before the race we gathered in line and I could hear someone behind me (have no idea if directed at me, but figured it was) say something like, "Well I guess if it works for him, then that is fine."

Stupid is in the eye of the beholder. It's not laudable to mock people, and especially to mock them because of their bodies. We are not in high school any more
