Best method for cleaning mud out of frame hinge?

I ride in the rain pretty often here in Oregon and have gotten some mud in the frame hinge. I do wipe my bike down regularly after rain rides but must have missed this (obvious) spot. Now my hinge kind of squeaks when I lock it down. Should I use a special kind of oil in there or something else entirely? Would some WD-40 work or does anyone have a better recommendation?

What kind of folder do you have? Some, for example my Dahon Mu Uno, have a port into which one can inject grease.

I've got an Origami Cricket and a Dahon Curve. It's the Cricket that's squeaking but I'd like to know for the Dahon as well, thank you.

A bit of WD40 well do the trick.

no. don't. do. it.

wd40 is really bad. the solvents in the propellant are bike death.

use a silicone based lube. seriously.

I did a spot o' research about this and found that while WD-40 isn't the greatest for some bike bits (like rubber) it should be ok for a quick fix, as long as I wipe any excess off. I agree however that a silicon based lube would work better in the long run. Is there a brand that you'd recommend?

Thanks! I'm headed to REI tomorrow so I grab a bottle then. Also, reading the description, I didn't know you were supposed to lube your spoke nipples. *giggle* That's really a thing?!? *giggle* Honestly, though, why do they need lube?

Smallwheeler, I was going to send you a PM but I haven't got enough posts yet. Really quick, I was wondering if you test rode any Bike Friday Tikit or Silk in comparison to your Brompton? I'm *this close* to pulling the trigger and getting a Bike Friday Silk since it seems more practical for me than a Brommie. Anyways, I just wanted to hear your thought about any comparisons you had.

I really like the Dahon Curve. It got an overhaul at the LBS but then got tucked into a hidden corner to come out for Christmas for my daughter. I've forbidden myself from riding it beyond some basic test rides for ... testing... yes, testing.

Honestly, I'm not fond of the ride. It seems a bit small for me, this might be that I haven't really tinkered with the fit too much. Again, I haven't really ridden it beyond up and down a gravel driveway. I can tell just by the feel that the breaks and some of the other components are higher quality than ones on my Cricket but I still like my Cricket too.

I tested a Brompton and several different Bike Fridays... wow they are all amazing machines. When I was riding the Brompton, I couldn't stop grinning. After the Brompton test drive, I drove down to Bike Friday thinking 'naw, I'll just get the Brommie' but the Bike Fridays they ride better overall I think then the Brompton. That and they have more options. They are also local to me. Sigh. My head says Bike Friday but my heart whispers Brompton. I know you really like your Brompton so thought I might ask your opinion about Bike Friday.
