Hello all. I picked my new Brompton up back on 10/4 and have ridden less than 50 miles since then. After only using the bungie cords that come built into the Brompton rear rack, they have broken already. Well, not sure if you want it called broken, but the bungee came out of the clip on the end. Has this happened to anyone else? I included a picture of the end of the clip. I will try to put the bungee cord back through, but I am sure this is going to happen again unless I add something to it. Any help would be appreciated as I am not much of a "repair guy"....LOL.

Still Pedaling

That's not good at all. I haven't used mine yet, but I will get some other cords now if I do need to use them. I'll just leave the ones that came with the bike right where they are. I hope you get that resolved. They should be warranted for sure.

what does the other one that is Not broken look like ?

a loop of heavy *wire twisted tight around the end of the elastic cord may fix it.

* Bailing wire , from when hay was baled up with wire, on the Farm.


They were still OK on My old Mk 2 T3, It left the factory in 1994,,

so now that you have publicly complained, .. and may not want to wait months
before getting a reply from someone else that may have had a similar issue,

contact the seller for a replacement.

You unscrew the rear roller wheel bolt to remove the old one and refit the replacement , as I recall .

On current Bromptons the cords (two per hook) are secured with a small hog ring clip (aka hog ring and aka hog clip). A knot might work as a temporary fix, but knots in bungee cords usually work themselves loose.

Hog Ring Pliers , are quite effective in squeezing hog rings closely crimped closed.

steel coat hanger wire can be twisted rather tightly , held by vise grips or regular pliers..



reads like they just didn't squeeze the crushable fixing piece quite firmly enough,

maybe the supervisors sped up the assembly line to catch up to increased sales ..

Both now came out of the clips, so I opened a case with Brompton. I will see what they tell me. I would rather them send me two new bungee cords with the hooks on them. After the amount paid for a Brompton, this should not "break" within the first two uses.

Well, I opened a ticket on Brompton's website and the next day they responded. They told me to go through an authorized dealer and they will replace for free. So that is what I did...called the store I purchased the bike from, and they already ordered the new bungees.
