Where to get replacement clamp for folding handlebars?
2 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone
I've been using this handlebars for some months now http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352732 They are not the best design in the world, as they sometimes come loose, and one time they were loose enough one of the quick release clamps broke as I put pressure on the handlebars. Trans-x don't make them anymore, nor spare parts but I would like to repair them. Problem is, it's a push button mechanism for release. I can't find any quick release clamps with push buttons. So, has anyone seen any anywhere?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352733 Thanks |
I would be writing, calling or e-mailing the company that sold them or the manufacturer. You are not going to find parts from other sources. Google should find you where Tranz X is. They may even send you the parts or a new handle bar because they don't want the liability of that part breaking and you getting hurt. Roger

mail me a camera.. or ask at Bike Friday . com in Eugene, Oregon.
heres the deal; 3 layers of Alloy tube.. 1 sleeve inside , bar halves of 7/8", and slit sleeve outside squeezes the whole thing together, when stem tightened around bars.. a small bolt thru the face plate puts the split, consistently, in the center... works same if stem face doesnt open, 1 bolt bar clamp around 1" tube.. |
Could you just replace the button lock cam lever with a non locking lever from a qr seat post clamp and then seek alternative means of keeping it from opening, starting with keeping it tight?

I did replace the broken one with a normal one, but they don't tend to have as much a curve on them than the supplied one, meaning they don't curve around the handlebars and don't lock up as much. Keeps coming loose. I'm trying a couple of things at the moment. Will report back when I get some results |

Sounds interesting. Don't follow exactly what you're saying, well sort of. Have you got a photo or diagram of what you're suggesting? Sent an e-mail to Bike Friday, so I'll se what they say |
These folding handle bars are very interesting.. I gather you have added them to a bike as opposed to having purchased a new bike with them on.. It appears that they would make a bike narrower.. pictures?
Another alternative that I have seen recently for making a bike narrower is a stem that unlocks and turns the bars 90 degrees. It seemed simple and safe. I was not successful in finding a goggle link |

I think fietsbob was referring to something like in the attached link
http://store.bikefriday.com/product_...ducts_id=13127 Traditional handlebars cut into and then a sleeve inserted. |
Except NOT.. they have not shown everything they Make, in the online store section.
http://www.bikefriday.com/bicycles/mountain these are fitted with a split bar, that they manufacture themselves. For further information, use the telephone .. |
