1971 Raleigh Twenty Restored
I am the second owner of this fine bicycle. I purchased it from an elderly Lady before she and her Husband went into a retirement home. It had been in her garage for a long time and was in seriously bad shape with lots of rust, bad paint and it was not working. I stripped it down to the frame and had it powder coated, de-rusted all the metal parts including the Brooks saddle parts and replaced the Brooks Emblem that Brooks England LTD sent me, replaced the wheels with Rhyno Lite Aluminum Sun Rims and Schwalbe Marathon 20 x 1.5 tires. New bearings in the bottom bracket, oiled the SA hub and a new chain. The mud guards were replaced with a pair of nice plastic ones I had from a Giant Halfway using the original Raleigh hardware. The handlebars were traded for a 1972 pair from a Raleigh Twenty forum member in NC USA and I added a pair of retro handle grips. All the cables and cable housings are original. Kool Stop Continental brake pads replaced the rock hard originals. The kickstand was purchased from a Raleigh Twenty forum member somewhere in England. One of the crank cotter “R” nuts was sent to me from a Raleigh Twenty forum member in CA USA. A complete set of replica Raleigh Twenty stickers were added to complete the project. I also added a Zefal pump I cut down to fit, a Planet Bike rear flasher, a Cateye OptiCube headlight and a Trek Time wireless computer. This was a fun project and I ended up with an awesome R20.

congrats on the restoration. Very well done. I've done a lot of old bikes. So gratifying. And there's nothing like when a forum member sends you parts from another country.
