1938 Autocycle

I am in need of a 16" wheel set for my wife's Moulton project. I am willing to have custom wheels built (might try building them myself) or would be happy to buy prebuilt if that avalable to meet my needs. Need assistance with the following

1. Hoop recommendations, looking for a durable resonably priced hoop with a good braking surface that is avalable in the USA.

2. What kind of inturnal 3 speed hub should I buy? I am looking at the SA S30 with no brake. Is this a good choice? Is there something better in the same price range? Unfortunately I need to stick with a 120mm spaced hub as the trailing arm on this bike is not easy to spread for bigger hub spacing.

3. Any recomondatins for a prebuilt 16" wheel set with a 3 speed hub?

4. Any other wheel advice for a 16" build?

which 16 ? 349 is used by Bike friday for their Tikit, read they can get 24 spoke .
Brompton uses a 349, 28 spoke..

305 is on Da hons,etc ..

Sutherlands lists 5 more 16" rim sizes between those 2..

front hub folding bikes 74 mm wide , most others 10cm wide,

rear hub is needing the frame spread too ..

S-A does Make a 28 spoke hubshell .. simple ,, narrow enough, is buying a Brompton BSR, Wheel
its a NIG AW3.




for 24 hole rims , a 36 hole hub is used and holes are skipped.


chrome?, I see offered Below below, it has and will suck for braking , with rim brakes ..

the velocity aeroheat double-walled rims, being aluminum would be better ..

I recommend the Velocity Aeroheat 349 as built by peter white. Scroll down to Aeroheat 349 near the bottom of the page:

havent tried a new axle and cones and some spacers in mine ,

I took off when I got a $99 dynohubwheel there, but these are just $60.

those 2 steel rims as a trailer wheel pair might be OK. ..

or a coaster or drum brake build.

in NYC that storage space for that cost a lot more than my Basement here..

another advantage to folding bikes . even pack-ratting is compact.
