Thanks for the picture. I was curious with the non QR stem. When I had my Dahon Speed Uno, I could fold the handle post over the frame after folding the frame. Hopefully I can work on a solution when mine arrives. Thanks again

Yeah, it would be great if we could source a cheap QR stem that would work with this bike.

Do you by any chance know the diameter of the upper portion of the handlepost? Thorusa sells the Dahon Revolve upper portion with quick release for $27. It says 1-1/4 on their site.

I am a newbie to a bike and this site and have a question. Is this bike good for newbie? It seems it requires some adjustment after assembly. I don't think I have any tools in my hand if repair needed.

I was having some problems with one of those spring latches and had to file a small burr off inside the hole. After that, I decided to upgrade the clip with some e-clips from Lowes. They are 5/32" in size and fit perfect add tight once installed.

This is really good information, thank you for sharing. It's a good example of a simple, inexpensive fix for a problem that could potentially cause someone to have to replace the entire folding stem.

it's good for a newbie...i would suggest to bring it to lbs before riding it for tune up.

I found a possible solution for anyone wanting to switch to a Dahon handlepost.

I'm in the process of upgrading a bunch of things to the Genesis and removed the handlepost to adjust the headset. Once off I realized that the fork is 1-1/8" and threaded. The big black ring is actually the nut for adjusting the headset. I was able to loosen and adjust this with a rubber strap wrench by the way.

I had come across this similar solution in Thorusa's technical section. Basically use a threadless stem adapter and the newer 1-1/8" Dahon handleposts.

He's suggesting you have a shop go over it to make sure everything's set up properly. Many mail-order bikes have machine built wheels that still need to be gone over by a human to prevent future spoke breakage,plus a mechanic can make sure your shifting and brakes are working right.

Each shop is different, just like an auto mechanic. Expect it to be over $40 at least, but probably more. Walmart bikes can be a pain for shops when the bike was assembled by a Walmart "assembler". Lucky us, this bike is received boxed and basically how all bikes are received. Just expect them to have to do more tuning on a part made to lesser standards.

Upgraded it to a shimano 7sp freewheel, shimano 7sp trigger shifter, foam grips, new saddle, rear rack, spare tektro v-brakes, and cut 2" off handlepost.

This style of bike is a dime a dozen in China.

I could get the same thing here for around $150USD new.

I'd prefer to get something secondhand like this (1600RMB=260USD), rather than have to replace most of the low quality parts.

And my favorite color is red.

Nope, just the shifter and the limit screws on the derailleur. I'm using the stock derailleur at the moment, but plan to upgrade. I'm on the search for a new crankset as well, but trying to keep everything budget and not high end for this build.

...and, with the stroke of a few keys, the Genesis starts looking real good again.

The Genesis has a forwards-angled stempost, something which I have not seen on China bikes. So just check that before saying they are the same. (This is a Dahon Biologic design feature.)
