How to stop the 'play' on a Brompton clasp?
Hi Guys
Just bought myself a black Brompton S6L and I'm loving it! Had it only a month and done well over 100 miles on her just commuting and touring at weekends! I just wondered if anyone has any bright ideas to get rid of the 'play' on the Brompton suspension clasp that holds the back wheel in place when the bike is in a rideable position? Mine has only a little bit of movement but it's enough to worry and annoy me because it makes quite a clang when riding on uneven surfaces. I've been told by Brompton it's perfectly normal which is fine but I just would like to stop it for peace of mind if anything. Any ideas? Also, I'm looking to maybe add a few upgrades to it in the coming months/years so does anyone recommend any great online stores for aftermarket or original Brompton parts/upgrades? Ideally one that ships in the UK. Thanks Rob |
Rotate the rubber suspension block , so the hook no longer engages at all ..
the Mk 2 didn't even latch, it had none, every time you picked it up, the rear folded .. It will be like that , then |
I did think about that but then it's still an issue if I ride on uneven ground. I don't imagine it will cause any problems but I just hate the 'clunking' noise it makes all the time - just doesn't sound healthy!
I guess I'll just have to live with it and take in the views instead of listening to the bike! :thumb: |

Wrap a really thick Bungee around the seat post and thru the top of the rear end, say hooked over the J bends that support your little wheels .
Add SJS Cycles to your list + now there are Brompton Boutique stores .. |
There is a little bit of play for sure, and that is normal for reason's I'm not aware of. The bike is built with such great quality that I'm sure that if that was a problem, the Brit engineers would have sorted that out ages ago. I don't have an issue with my Brompton at all. It rides extremely smooth. The best bike I have ever owned. Perhaps you need to find smoother roads. :)
