What mirror for Brompton
 

I have a Brompton H6L with Ergon GP1 grips. Mounting a right hand side bar end mirror is not an option for UK riders as the mirror would hit the ground when folded.

Of these mirrors which one do you think would be best for this bike?

I use two Zefal Dooback mirrors, left and right, mounted reversely, if I remember correctly. You can fold them out of the way for bike folding. No problem with car or suitcase travel.

H/M handle bars do have the vertical Rise part , under the grips to attach mirrors onto.

so the bike eye and the zefal spy out of your short list , {or something that velcros off so you pocket it when you fold the bike if its in the way)


or of course the ones you wear on your helmet or glasses..

Has anyone ever used the third eye bar end mirror?. I have that on other bikes, both straight and dropped bars and love it. But it might be in the way on thr LH side.

Havent tried one , any .. I turn my head and Look .. stick my arm out when changing lanes.

(Its a small town , the ODOT could just as well left the US 30 on Marine drive
& not split it into 2 1 way streets to run thru the commercial shopping blocks.)

I use the Mirrycle (spelling?) bar end one - in order to prevent it from hitting the ground during the fold, I just fold the mirror (it spins on one of the axis). It has prven to be very durable even folding (spinning) it daily.

I have brompton H with Ergon GP3 grips with short end bars.I like the end bars and didn't want to cut them off to install a bar end mirror. I tried the kind that clip onto your eyeglasses,a few other types and finally bought a cheap Bell mirror ($7) with velcro strap that fits the Ergons perfectly without any cutting.Folding is a problem only when forced to fold down the handbars which is rare since I leave them up most of the time and it only takes a few seconds to unstrap the mirror and put it in my bike bag if I have to. Also, since my left hand rests on the part that straps to the grip I can adjust the mirrors position with a little twist.I like it so much I bought one for the right side for when I need visibility on both sides.

how about no mirror. What are you doing, riding the freeway with that thing?

I use the Zefal Spin on my Brompton. It swivels around nicely so that you can tuck it close to the bar when you fold the handlebars down. Also, like so many mirrors, it doesn't give you a false image like so many concave and convex mirrors do. Nothing worse than looking into a mirror thinking that a car is far back when in affect its almost on top of you. Whatever mirror you choose, make sure that it isn't too concave or convex. The price on ebay shows $21.95. I paid $12.95 at Portapedal Bike in Tempe AZ. Check around for a better price than shown in the link.

Eyeglass mirrors are uncool looking IMO.

Eyeglass mirrors, while considered uncool by some, are more useful than the handlebar mounted mirrors.

As for being "cool", if you are concerned about it, you are not, regardless of what kind of mirror you use.

To be cool you shouldn't be riding a Brompton, let alone any folder.
