From a functional and aesthetic point of view, this new tech looks promising. There are a few issues however:

1) These wheels are as expensive as a fully specced folding bike. In fact you would get a very high-end one for the price of a pair of these!
2) They lack the economies of scale trying the direct marketing model to consumers. I suspect they need to partner manufacturers direct. Of course if they get some early adopters direct, good luck to them!
3) They need to learn about subtle branding. See link below to a modified Dahon they are selling. The branding (loopwheels.com logo) is overly intrusive and spoils the aesthetics. If I had the luxury of being an early adopter, this would be a deal killer for me!

I was skeptical, but the bikeradar review is very favorable.

Guess I'm still skeptical but then almost all my riding is on paved roads and I don't really care for suspension beyond what I get from my tires.

I like the "idea" of something new and innovative changing the mature technology of the modern bicycle. A lighter weight, stable, and maintenance free wheel could be it. So could internally geared hubs and belt drives. Or a bike frame made from hi-tech lightweight weather proof cardboard.

But.... I don't think I will be one of the early adopters.

If the loopwheels were 8 speed igh and $500 shipped and delivered I'd pop for 'em. At this cost, and only 3 speed, totally unacceptable. Lovely product, well out of my price range.
