help with second hand brompton buy

12 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

I am new to brompton, I just bought a second hand one that is an M model with 5 gears I am told.
Here is the information I was able to gather:

M- handle
Sturmey Archer 5-speed Shift Levers
no serial
frame number states 023535 BS6201 PART I
Rear Cogs : unsure... reads Sturmey 95-02 made in england
steel pedals
rubber rear shock - no magnet
old dynamo, but not working
weight 12.7 kg

I have checked many forums etc.. based on the assumption it was a T5 with 5 gears but that's what the seller told me, and I cannot verify that for myself.

Here is the most complete info I could find on older models.
1997 Brompton Brompton T5 - BikePedia
Bicycle Value Guide ( their price estimate are very low compared to market prices) can you confirm?

With the help of the numerous picture taken of all different part of the Brompton and based on above info, can you please help find out what year approx. it has been made? and it is worth the 600 EUR?

I have until Sunday to decide if I am giving it back to the seller for refund, and I did see more recent model ( M3R for 100eur more, possibly more recent model i.e. with stronger components)

Many thanks for your feedback. Your expertised is appreciated.

Cheers,
eclypse

Their prices are pretty much compiled using an algorithm, not real world values;I ignore that site.

Better to compare prices on eBay and whatever local sites you have. As to that bike, from the pics it seems to be in decent shape. The chain may need replacement,or just a good cleaning. The dyno may just have a loose wire somewhere, and replacements aren't hard or expensive to source. Also note,Brompton design hasn't changed much in a long time,so you can always upgrade to the newer parts.

Its A Mk 2 , Butt brazed forged hinge plates , the S-A single lever 5 speed is a past User's retrofit . , The Bottle Dynamo Head needs a6V, 2.4W bulb Tail 0.6W
Unless past Owner replaced the headlight reflector with a Union.. Flanged base .. Is a Halogen Bulb Same 2.4w/6v

$600 is not a Bad price they hold their Value .. If priced super cheap suspect it's stolen.

Magnet? what Magnet ?

Thanks a lot for your quick feedback. This is very helpful. By magnet (or rather magnetic) I was referring to the new brompton rear shock. I understood post 2007 models came in with a new rear shock version, the had magnet that keeps the back wheel in place when unfolded, rather than it being very loose. Is that right?

Thanks again.

It's a Latch, YOU CAN buy the parts Kit and change that .. I did. QRFCLIP-RETKIT check an AMS Brompton Dealer or ..

Brompton makes things retrofitable back to earlier Models. [ Maybe not the original series but certainly the 2nd one , like Yours]

reaching down behind the seat tube, you touch a lever opening the latch . Rubber suspension Block is retained (if you want to)

My T5 Brompton came with a single shift lever from the factory. The early ones used a pair of 3sp gear levers.

AFAIK that hub with 2 shifters on either end was discontinued in the 90's * next version Mk3, Sachs made the 3 by2 hub with 13/15t cogs..

my Mk2 frame had fittings for another cable pulley on the left side..
