The plot thickens - Police trying to question the boy at school ... drama ... stuffz

Man I miss the drama free days of shoveling snow in Arkansas....

So, my ex only tells me stuff when she knows I'm going to find out later, and wants to do some damage control. The police showing up at my kid's school to "question" the boy, is something I might find out about. So she calls and feeds me a story about the boy getting in trouble at school for writing some novel about a soldier (cuz violence, apparently). But the school said they never called the police on the boy and he never got in trouble for nothing. The school deputy also denies that the boy ever got into trouble at school. The boy on the other hand, does remember the police showing up at the school, to "question him" about something... but then he heard my ex on the phone telling them that they can't question the boy without she being there ... yada yada...

At first I thought it was all a made up story by my crazy ex, cuz she likes to create drama out of thin air every once in a while. But thinking about my conversations with the school faculty/deputy, something keeps popping up. They keep mentioning that if the boy was wanted for questioning, something must had happen outside the school.

Now it's starting to look like something else happened, that has nothing to do with my boy's war novel, and the police wanted to question my boy about that... she stopped them, then made the story about the novel as a smoke screen. If the police showed up at the school to talk to my boy, for something that has nothing to do with the school, it could be that the school have no idea about what happened.

I ignored when she lost the job as correctional officer after getting pregnant from the ex-convict boyfriend who was on probation for drug trafficking charges... Her life, her issues... but if my boy is getting questioned by the police, and it turns out something else happened... it's on.

...and again, I really miss the drama free snow shoveling days in Arkansas... so pretty and beautiful up there.

Since the boy is a minor and you are the father, I would think you could go to the police department and ask if they have talked to your son. Not sure how they are required to respond but you might get something.

If calling the PD doesn't help, search for her county's court clerk website and see if they have a case search, then search the ex's and ex-con boyfriend's name to see if there have been any recent charges. It's generally public information. I'd record every single piece of correspondence with this woman to protect yourself. Hopefully she's just feeding the kid lies to get you worked up, sad and damaging though that may be.

You would have missed them this year. Only one snow-fall. It was pretty though.

Sounds like your boy needs you near though.

IF the cops questioned him at school, then get the LEO name(s) from them. Then contact said LEO(s) to find out what's going on.

IIRC, you have joint custody, so they shouldn't have any issues with telling you what their interest in your son really is.

I was really trying to avoid diving into the drama, but I can't stop thinking of this. It is my boy we are talking about. She said it was the school who called the police on the boy... the school said it was somebody else... somebody is lying, and I want to know why.

Had to dig around a few police stations to find the right one but I finally got the official police report on what happened. Turns out the school staff and the school deputy outright lied. It was indeed a teacher at the school who called the police on my boy, and it was through the school deputy that the issue was handled. I don't know how the deputy at the school could handle the whole issue, write the official report, then few days later leave me a voicemail denying nothing ever happened.

And the teacher also screwed up big time. All my son did was to have a copy on his phone of a novel he's writing, about a soldier in a war. It's a document, few pages long. The teacher got a hold of the document somehow, took pieces of the story and reported them as "text messages"... She paid special attention to a part of the story where the battalion has to move, and they are talking about the logistics of moving equipment, supplies and duh, weapons. The way she reported it, made it look like my son was sending text messages about "don't forget to bring the 90 caliber bolt action and the c4". When in fact there is no such "text message", it's a snip of a word document.

The ex-wife also lied a bit... she tried to make the boyfriend look like a white knight in shining armor who went to school to protect the boy... never happened. He's not a parent nor a legal step parent, even if he tried he can't really do nothing. Not that I wouldn't had appreciated it, if it had happened. But it didn't.

So now I sit here with what I believe to be a violation of my son's privacy, a mis-representation of a text document reported to authorities as actual text messages, an investigation done on my boy, a voicemail from the deputy denying it ever happened and a record with my boy's name on it. I wonder where to go from here...

Wow this really hits home for me, my 14 yr old is writing a novel that is heavily video game (hence combat) inspired. He is using the tools his education has given him, google docs, so yeah it is on his phone and anyone else's he shares it to. He actually gave a printout of it to his English teacher, looking for a critique. She hasn't responded on his writing but at least she hasn't narc'd him out to the onsite (or citywide) po po either.

My daughter's school updated their mobile phone policy this (school) year, allowing their use in between classes. We recently 'upgraded' her from a cheap Alcatel Big Easy on Tracfone to a cheap ($13 on clearance at the local Wally World) Lumia 435... and she got caught using it when she was supposed to be watching a film during class. Teacher gave her two days of detention and we gave her two weeks groundation w/no phone.

I guess I could try to go against the school for:

1) Going through my boy's phone (privacy)
2) Making copies of the data on said phone
3) Reporting parts of the data as text messages
4) etc etc etc

But I'm afraid that because the story involved some kind of firearms, everything else will be ignored. If only I could take the decision of home schooling the boy by myself. But the ex is gonna get in the way. I'm trying not to let this get to me. But had it been some rich kid, son of somebody important, no teacher would have dare to go through his phone and mis-report parts of an electronic book as quasy-terrorist text messages. If I ever had more kids, I would make sure to have them with somebody who agrees that home schooling is a better option than the nany-state run public education.

PS: At least I found out what happened this time.
