Shhhh! Don't say nothing.

Or or you could say something like I did when my used Jeep was getting free Sirius radio. It doesn't anymore.

Hell, I've just over a 150 channels and nothin's on. And a good 10% of those channels are just trying to sell me something.. perpetual commercials... yet no doubt they "count" in the channel lineup.

So, are you complaining about cable or over the air reception? Cable has nothing to do with over the air if you are using an antenna.

I'm with comcast for internet only. Pick your brand of evil.

Pay tv is difficult to justify. Between work and school, I'm not home enough. And I should be riding my bike more anyhow.

I'm retired, so home a lot... and we do love cooking shows and some of the travel shows... but I don't need anything sports (comes as part of the package) nor do I want QVC and all those networks. Give me science (real science), old movies, travel and cooking and news, and I'd be happy... however NO cable/sat provider is going to let me "roll my own."

Now I do have a choice here... unlike back in San Diego, where the cable companies were dictated by some sort of city or county charter, that put Time Warner in the north and Cox Cable in the south... with no choice for the consumer.

Here I have a very local small company, Xfinity (can't fool me... you're comcast and all the "fine" customer service you bring) and I believe Frontier is also available.

I went with the local company... their service is outstanding and very personal (you are literally dealing with neighbors) and they offer local programming that the bigger guys just don't have. On the flip side, they are a bit more expensive, and the UI on their "guide" could use some work.)

But for all that, I still get all the damn sports stuff and dozens of other channels that are effectively useless to me... because that is how the package deals come.

Do You Know where the transmitter towers are physically located ?. OTA is blocked by Terrain, like hills, in the way.

I have the Trinity from Charter .. This Computer modem a Phone land line that I get Robocalls on

and the TV for my Monopoly capitalist propaganda Input.

DSL/Common carrier Phone 1 company "Century Link", Cable 1 company ..
no price controls other than going Cold Turkey and shutting them Both Off.

duo-Opoly no competitors allowed by the Government in the town/county ..

Here is north county san diego, we went for Dish, and AT&T for internet (but can't get AT&T U-verse for cable). I'm trying to drop hints to the wife that we'd be paying way less, and still have way too much to watch, if we dropped dish, boosted our internet bandwidth, and got streaming netflix and OTA HD with a $10 antenna. It's just tough to sacrifice the hundreds of hours of stuff we're never getting to on the DVR, a few series we're always in the middle of that wouldn't be available from netflix, etc.

That offer came around my hood in the Clairmont Mesa area... the problem was the AT&T, which was DSL, had a lower data rate than cable Time Warner. I worked a lot from home at that time and that lower data rate just wasn't going to cut it.

Interestingly, when I moved, I settled for DSL... and sure enough, I noticed the low data rate right away... but put up with it. Recently, we were offered a new type of DSL, VDSL... which boosted download to 20mbs and upload to 5mbs. (even faster is available, but I don't need it) And since it did not require a analog phone (which the old DSL somehow needed) we were charged $30 less. This is the first time in my 60 year span on the planet that a cable company has given me better service for less money... I just stood there with my jaw dropped as the tech told me that. Whoo Hoo!

The only way I could think of for that to happen, is that the signals that were leaking out were somehow out of phase with the OTA signals and the sum... the result, was just noise.

Yeah, close to the antenna could make out of phase signal cancellation an issue...

I don't know about technologies (DSL vs whatever), but we've got whatever the cheapest/slowest tier of AT&T internet service is. No phone service plan, we run our land line off the internet with vonage. Internet gets slow in the 5-9pm time, but it's fine for now. We did a trial of Amazon Prime, and the internet speed was definitely a hassle trying to binge-watch The Wire.

Yeah, not the kind of quality I would need for CAD library access, and uploading big files, nor the kind of speed that would come close to satisfying a gamer...

So really, not much of an offer.

No, you were not... however AT&T was trying to make me an offer of the use of their DSL, which I found sub par... it was their "offer" that I commented on.

We moved into a rental house some years ago that was well in the country, so no antennae coverage at all. Just for giggle, I hooked to the cable outlet to attach to an outside unit on top of the house. When I did, and before disconnecting the other end, we found that we had full cable, other than "pay" channels and the like, no box or anything. I called the cable company to let them know because the incoming line was actually IN a tree that had grown up around in all the years since it had been run. They GAVE us free cable for six months just for telling them.

I honestly don't think hat there was a signal leakage, at the cable box, big enough to interfere with OTA. I guess it's possible, but I don't buy it. Most likely something else happened that affected OTA reception, but it wasn't noticed because no rescan had been done. Then evil cable uy shows up, ppl check... and techie "must have done something". I don't think one event is linked to the other.

You can, however, find out. Records of repairs to signal leakage of that magnitude, must be kept for years and I believe they must be public data as well.

Technology breaks, and has hiccups. I can't even count how many times I've been parked somewhere, eating a sandwich, when some random person knocks the window of the techie van... "my (insert electronics) stopped working as soon as you pullover! you must have done something!"... meh

Having worked in RF for the last 40 years or so of my life... you'd be surprised at what a little "leak" can do.
