Two work colleagues just got matched up. They are totally not each other's type. One wanted to laugh about it, the other is mortified.

I thought you went to bars to pickup girls...or the grocery store...or weddings. Online sites are for finding deep meaningful relationships without the fear of face-to-face rejection.

E Harmony worked for me. I met my wife through E Harmony and have been happily married for 9-years now.

there's a crapload of online dating sites...

Match, Chemistry, Plenty of Fish, OK Cupid, etc etc etc...some are subscription based, some are free.

E-Harmony requires you to answer a survey that has 500 questions and is totally focused on marriage as an end result. after wasting 2 hrs filling it out, the site informed me that I was not suitable for their services. guess that's because I have no interest in ever being married again...one of my best friends found her husband there tho, so guess it works.

I've tried some of the free ones...mostly unproductive, got a lot of scammers and foreigners looking for a path to citizenship.

OKC was good at first, it seems to have a decent algorithm for determining compatibility and had a really good search feature, but they're slowing making many of good parts into a subscription-required option. it's an effective way to see what someone looks like, their basic likes/dislikes, kids, pets, blah blah...before you invest much time, money, and energy getting to know them.

as far as results...have gotten everything from having a drink thrown at me by a bat**** crazy lady who posted her sister's photo instead of her own (she was a beast, her sis was hot), a bunch of one-and-done dates, to a 2-yr long relationship with a woman who lives one street over from me.

it's a jungle out there, if you don't do church or bars, finding suitable women to hang out with can be a little difficult...

Try Fitness Singles. Most of the people are into running, cycling and skiing. Set up a free account and give it a look.

I met my wife on-line... way back in (windows) 95. In those days it was in an AOL chatroom. I was just killing time and never imagined I'd find romance on-line. I don't even come-off as being a nice person on-line.

There are very few places where women don't go. You can meet women anywhere. You can also meet people and make friends... or just have fun. Find better places to be than sitting at home by yourself and the women will find you.

I met my gf on PoF so no complaints there. I've also tried OK Cupid and Fitness Singles. Of the three PoF and OK Cupid were fine for meeting people.

I met my wife on the radio. There used to be dating game type show on Friday nights here. It was officially called Why Spend Friday Nights Alone, but everyone called it Desparate And Dateless. This girl called in they interviewed her, she used to live in a nearby city that I had recently left, so I figured we'd have something to talk about. Of three bachelors she picked me. Within two years we were married. And it was a good one.

Unless you're in your 20's I think your only choice is 'what's left' anyhow so not sure your point. I'm sure the same goes the other way too. Recently divorced in my late 30's, I figure most the good ones are already taken. Some perhaps also have been recently divorced though, so maybe hope. The workplace has been a complete bust for the year to two I've been single, and well I don't do bars or things like that - for one I have my 10 yr old with me on most all my free time (no sitter or family in the state). I have no freaking clue how you're suppose to pick up a girl in a grocery store lol, pretty much the only other thing I do is run, bike, hike, etc, outdoor activities. I always say hi while running to other runners, but most women with headphones in don't even acknowledge my existence. And on the bike I'm going too fast to do much other than nod. Pretty extremely rare to come across a single gal hiking. So that leaves online... had never thought I'd go that route but may be worth a shot. At least it seems like some of them use some filters or ways to match you... would be so great to find a gal willing to hike in the mountains. That alone would pretty much be my dream girl. Pretty rare with women to find one willing to forgo a bed and hot shower for a few days while climbing for thousands of feet and miles on end. I know there are many out there but how do you find em? I'm on three hiking forum and have maybe seen 2 single women in like 5+ years. Maybe it's time to try the net. Even without hiking, just someone who believes in fitness and living healthy and respecting nature would be amazing.

I hadn't been looking. I was behind the soundboard and she walked right in... and that wasn't quite that, but close enough.

I know of a guy (from the internet) who claimed good luck monitoring the "romance" section of Barnes and Noble. I don't think he's gainfully employed.

I wouldn't criticize the methods of anyone that has surpassed the lengths of my relationships.

Amy Shumer takes over a Tinder account.

Funny and interesting. The guys get about 3 seconds of consideration before a Yes or No.
"Thomas. Fire department.

Come on--let's just see him in his outfit.

If he doesn't ha.... YES! Aww, "you" almost said No; he's holding a kitten. Bam! You like him.....

It's a MATCH!"

Broaden the pool. Travel. You'd be shocked at the prospects outside North America. If I were single in my 40s, where would I be? Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Kenya, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.
