Anybody read Runner's World lately?

I flew across the country recently, on my way out of my favorite running shoe store I grabbed a free copy of a recent runner's world, intending to read it on one of the flights.

Boy was I disappointed. The magazine was filled with short, one page "articles" which consisted of basically interviews and letters from readers. The entire magazine had ONE full length article. Luckily, it was worth reading. This one happened to be about Prefontaine which I very much enjoyed reading. There were a few single page "core workouts" or "interviews with professional runners," but nothing worth looking at.

The back of the magazine contained reviews for shoes. While yes, this is somewhat useful, shoes in running are as personal as bikes are in cycling. Even MORE so. It's almost impossible to tell if someone else will like a shoe from a magazine review. Sure, there is good information for "this shoe is very expensive and this other shoe is pretty much the same at a lower price point." But other than that? NO real use.

I did find it interesting that there was a bike advertisement on the very last page of the magazine. Made me smile.

Are all magazines like this now-a-day? Do people actually pay for subscriptions to this crap? I didn't even mention the far too many advertisements.

Nope, nobody has read Runner's World lately. They've experienced a shocking decline in readership.

i get it every month, mostly because it is free, i think there was a article this month that was pretty gripping that was about 6 pages or so about the history of the steeple chase. but the same company wont give away cycling magazine, so they know what sells and what doesn't
