I keep it below 1 gb when connected to cell phone towers. I'm using google project fi and most of my time using data is on wifi. My total costs--voice, text, and data, is around $30 a month. That's why I'm on google project fi.

3-4GB monthly with 5 phone numbers...but I don't think we're typical. We don't get out much so most of our usage is via Wi-Fi. We have a 15GB plan with AT&T and rollover a ton each month.

I thought about switching from my Sprint family plan line (that is off contract with my Nexus)...but it would cost more money per month (lowest tier costs $30/month, money saved on the family blan by leaving Sprint is $25/month), for less data, and would not get me any better service (Sprint and TMo tend to service the exact same geographic areas)..

I use whatever non-roaming data I use and don't sweat it. One of the nice things about Sprint family plans.

What model Nexus phone do you have?

I could never get my wife and daughters to give up their i-devices.

I have the google nexus 5x; google was offering a large rebate on them a while back and I snapped one up. Great phone and great service from Google.

What do you mean "unlocked"? There's carrier-unlocked, as in take a device to any carrier....and there's bootloader unlocked, as in you can do whatever the F you want to do to the phone. Those two states have no bearing on one another.

A) You might have bought a BOOTLOADER unlocked phone...that is carrier locked (or not) to T Mobile.

B) You bought a CARRIER UNLOCKED phone...that still has a T-Mo SIM in it. Power off, change the SIM out, and do a factory reset on the phone.

C) You bought a phone that CAN BE carrier unlocked, but IS NOT as of now....and you have to buy an unlock code from T-Mo

.

It depends on exactly what you bought, and from whom. Without knowing more it is impossible to guess. It also depends on who your current carrier is that you want to use the device on, and what SPECIFIC SKU the device is. Some phones-like the Samsung phones have unique-snowflake SKUs for every continent and every carrier that don't work anywhere else for anyone else.

Do you have separate internet access and what's your access to WiFi like?

At the moment my mobile phone data is my internet access. I tether my laptop to my cell phone and my cell phone account is the only phone/internet access I have.

I'm on a 11 giga-bite plan and I use just about all of it each month.

So, what are you going to use the phone for?

Anthony

Based on how much data has rolled over from last month, it looks like my wife and I use approximately 6GB per month, combined.

We have a shared 10GB plan with AT&T, and we get a 15% discount on the data plan through her work.

We use wifi whenever possible. When we're out and about playing Pokemon Go, we use her (again, through her work) Sprint mobile hotspot that has a butt-ton of bandwidth per month.

Did you buy this new or used? If new and unlocked; no company should pop up. If used and unlocked; the last company used might pop up - is the old SIM card still inside?

Last month I used less than 100 MB of data. I'm always in front of the computer at work and home. Even when I'm out; use wifi for internet on the phone most of the time - stores, restaurants, etc. Bill for July was US$20 on Ting's network using an unlocked GSM Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

My family is on the AT&T 15GB plan with monthly roll-over. We always use 3-5GB but my usage can really spike depending on work. I'm an IT guy and depending on the amount of remote access I do, the monthly total fluctuates quite a bit. It also depends on how much head-down time I'm doing on programming assignments. I generally stream music while I'm programming, so that can eat up data pretty quickly as well.

3 phones on a 10g plan, we use about 6 gigs in the average month... I use about 1.2 gigs... mostly web browser and map use.

Wife and son use the rest... mostly social media.

Son was on snapchat for a while... used over 6g a month, till I told him to set it for wifi only.

BTW I have samsung S5, they both have iphones... my S5 remembers wifi passwords for any place I've been, and logs on when I return... they have to get the password and manually relog on to any place they are away from longer than a few weeks. They end up using more network time that way.

If the last company the phone was on was Tmobile and now you're using it w/ MetroPCS; the phone is unlocked.
You can test it for sure by inserting someone else's SIM card(At&T, Ting, NET10, etc.) and see if it functions. You
can also try a Samsung software update on the phone if the "Tmobile" popping up bothers you.

Our plan has 1GB of shared data between my wife and I. We only go over a few months out of the year. So, you could estimate about 500MB each. Usually I use more than her though.
Whatever we don't use rolls over to the next month though, which is nice.

I use less than 100mb per month. I only use it to occasionally check email, FB messenger, to check the weather app, and use Google Maps when travelling. I try to use wifi as much as I can.
I use Tracfone prepaid service. My talk, text and data rolls over forever as long as I have service days. Due to perks/glitches I have service days out to 2037. Cost works out to less than $10/mo for my service. I put my SIM card in phones that I pay $20-30 for.
