How about those Cubs?

I don't really keep up with baseball, or any sports, but I have always considered myself a Cubs fan. I was indoctrinated from birth. I'll keep it short just to say it feels great to have a team who is almost every year the underdog do so well, and that I'd promise my firstborn to someone with a ticket to one of the games for me.

It's hard not to pull for the Cubs, I especially like that they've kept Wrigley Field and the charm of playing in a facility built in 1914 I hope it's a good series and always want them to go 7

Is it true that while playing games at Wrigley, that they'll be not seating fans in the first two rows down the lines?

Too soon?

I am pulling for the Cubs. Loved the last Cleveland world series, 11th inning of game 7? Can't beat that.

Hard to believe they are still playing baseball. It could be snowing in Chicago or Cleveland during the season. Baseball should be over and done with on Labor Day. They are the boys of summer and not the boys of winter for Pete's sake.

Yep...Now you know how us Phillies fans felt in 1993. We are still proud of that team.
1998 Padres fans must have felt that way, too.

Don Kessinger should be here to play in one of these World Series games for the Cubbies! He deserves it!

It will always beat murders and politics. And please note that it's Fall until December, Winter baseball is played in places like Arizona. The Cubs have a much better winning record for the regular season than Cleveland as well.

But it's the thought that two of the smallest organizations in the Leagues are in there, with loyal and patient fans who have been rewarded beyond their wildest dreams this season, one with a grand and ancient park and the other with a modern recreation of such a park, that's pretty cool.

It is a game, but it's nice and slow and few players are left with brain damage from playing it, and the uniforms are the coolest.

Minimum requirement is 3 Cubs wins now..

Ghosts of all those generations of Cubs Players taking an at bat , in the same Wrigley Field they played in,

would be an entertaining spectacle, for the Halloween season..

Yeah.., I noticed that. In their defense (lack of offense?) the pitchers last night on both teams were trying to stay away from the hitters' wheelhouse (strike zone), so you had fastballs at shoulder height and arm's length and sliders in the dirt. The Cubs pitchers had Cleveland batters chasing, too, so if this keeps-up, this may come down to walking a winning run home.

Fiets: That is a great idea. A Cleveland pitcher calling "time" as his shoelaces come undone five times in a row. Just what gives?

I would like to see them go back to the shorter schedule of the pre-steroid era, so we could leave the asterisk on all the 162 game seasons. Then, use some of the time shaved to extend the wild card to best of three, and the division round to best of seven. I still don't think they could avoid the NFL, which stinks. The World Series is an afterthought to most people these days.

Even at his present age, you put Charlie Hustle in there, somewhere in the infield, and he will win this series for the Cubs.

The Cubs Almost Blew It

On the other hand,
World Series Ticket to Wrigley Fulfills a 71-Year-Old Promise by Brothers - The New York Times
CHICAGO — The boy stood on the corner of Division and Oakley on Chicago’s North Side, tears trickling down his cheeks as his three older brothers boarded a streetcar bound for Wrigley Field.

It was Oct. 6, 1945. Frank Colletti was 11, deemed too young by his protective siblings for the adventure on which they were setting out. They planned to sleep on the street that night, scare up tickets the next morning and go to Game 5 of the World Series, Cubs vs. Detroit Tigers.
Little Frank would be left behind. But one of his brothers, Ned, then 15, told him not to worry.
“He said, ‘We promise to take you to the next one,’” said Frank, now 82. “But the next one never came.”

Don't want to jack the thread too bad, but what a disgrace for Fox. They put A-Rod and Pete Rose up there!

I guess Lance Armstrong and G. Gordon Liddy were unavailable...

As a Reds fan, I had mixed feelings seeing Chapman doing the job out there. Hopefully the Cubs can push it to seven.

Yep, baseball is one month too long. OTOH, lot of low income and people who are down and out make money at the ballpark as food workers, cleaners so the extra games help.

To be fair they were deep into amphetamines to extend from 154 to 162. Steroids were more primitive then, powdered pineal gland of male adolescent iguana type stuff.

Before amphetamines, like cycling, I guess it was strychnine and gin.
