December Photo Thread

Hello fellow fotographers .

This month's theme is "Atmosphere" - photos that feature rain, snow, fog, smog, smoke or any atmospheric anomaly that is either the main subject, or at least as prominent as your main subject. Apologies if this has been done before - I was too lazy to check.

Here's my entry:

Sunsets were not my intention. Those are normal everyday conditions. For this theme, we want atmosphere that obscures the background, isolating the main subject, or the atmosphere as a subject in itself - so clouds would be OK. Does that make sense? I think sunsets would merit a theme all by themselves, but not this month.

I did a quick check to see if I have posted this before on BF but couldn't find it - apologies if I have.

In response to DQRider's question, the pic was taken on an early morning canoe ride on a lake a couple of hours' drive north of Toronto in September last year. It only took a few minutes for the sun to come up higher over the trees and drive off the mist. I used a 300m lens so that will have had a foreshortening effect.

Squall. Sky was crystal clear one minute, that formed, rained on the area about 1 mile to the west of me (close enough to smell the rain) then dissipated. I'm glad the wind wasn't coming at me.

Nice image of an exotic Icelandic sunset...

Okay, I surrender. It occurs to me that most folks do not practice photography in inclement weather. Why take your camera out in the rain, snow, or fog? You can't SEE anything, right? So if all you have is a dawn or sunset image, then by all means post it. I trust the judges will grade accordingly...

This is not my entry, that was in the first post. But if we were doing sunrise/sunset shots, I would post this:

The fact that I shot this ten years ago would disqualify it anyway.

lol i actually had a completely different sunset shot in mind when I asked - I hedged my bets with my pic as much of it was obscured by the clouds and ....atmosphere! lol... impinging on the sunset.

I will remove it and replace with my backup - no biggie!

Nondes, can you post a caption that tells us what/where this is? It's an intriguing image, but more information would aid in judging.

I like pix of clouds casting shadows on each other and other things, but my faves of those are heavily sunrise/set focused. Still some shadows here though, from a daily commute viewing stop.
