January Photo Thread & Contest

New year, new month, new contest!

I think y'all know the rules: must be your photo, try to have taken it within the last year, one entry per person, yada yada.

This month's theme: EXPLORATION

Good luck.

a hi to mia !!!
it's from oxnard ca. the owner of the business has lots of interesting old equipment and scrap steel objects. we've gotten to know each other well over the last couple of years and he lets me just wander around 'exploring' and taking photos whenever i want. He also made an incredible detailed model train all from parts he made.

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, southern Argentina. The walkway is about 1km long, around a headland that faces the "snout" (?) of the Glacier. You can see and hear large chunks of ice falling off the face and splashing into the fjord. I'll post a splash in the "post your photography" thread.

I see we are off to a great start already this month. What a cool subject! WTG, Sciguy

Exploration comes in so many forms - essentially it is seeking the dynamic quality of a new experience; outwardly with our five senses, or sometimes inwardly using only our sensibility.

The bicycles I build are all about exploration: of both the qualities of the new machine, and the trails we explore together. Here's one I built last Spring, on one of our first outings together. Exploring a newly built bicycle on an old familiar trail...

Yes these canyons can flash flood bigly. We watch the weather carefully before venturing forth.

If you've never seen it, there's a really engaging book you might want to check out - Over the Edge. It's about all the different ways people die in the Grand Canyon. A whole chapter on flash floods, if I remember correctly.
