Well, the ugliest lil thing you ever see before...
He didn't be a tramp, he's a hobo.
Hes a ugly lil somethin on the scout.
Hes a terrible lil creature hush yo' mouth.
Hes a awful lil thing, he's a killer diller from the south.

Well, he walked into the store where I was at,
And in his face looked like a cryin cat.
Cause he's a ugly lil sucker on the scout,
Hes a terrible lil creature hush yo' mouth,
Hes a awful lil thing, he's a killer diller from the south.

Well, he walked down the street lookin in a showcase,
His stacker walked out, said you can take my place.
Cause he's a ugly lil shaver on the scout,
Hes a terrible lil somethin hush yo' mouth,
Hes a awful lil creature, he's a killer diller from the south.

Well, he walked in the hotel, everbody left,
He looked in the glass and he smiled at his self,
I'm a ugly lil shaver on the scout,
I'm a terrible lil somethin hush yo' mouth,
I'm a awful lil creature, I'm a killer diller from the south.

One of the many covers of this one from 1935. I've been trying to find the original version and as near as I can determine it's Kokomo Arnold's "Busy Bootin'" which I'll post in the 'Any Decade' thread.

One of my friends had a CD called Copulation Blues or something similar and it was full of old songs full of double entendres. It was pretty funny, and I haven't heard it in years.

Always loved this song. This is when I began to appreciate what I'd been sleeping on in this artist.

Just south of the border music happens. A lot of it; for a long, long time.

Young, Natalia LaFourcade, is forging her international career while standing on some very broad artistic shoulders--those of Consuelo Velásquez and Chavela Vargas. Consuelo Velásquez was a Mexican songwriter and singer who had a brilliant international career, and who wrote songs that became famous around the globe (yea--even here in 'murca). Chavela Vargas, no less accomplished, had a fascinating and compelling life history (she was said to have been a lover of Frida Kahlo; was a close friend of Spanish film director, Pedro Almodóvar, who featured her singing in the soundtracks of some of his films). Although she was actually born in Costa Rica, by the end of her life she so identified with Mexico that her last words were purported to have been, "I leave with Mexico in my heart."

At the end, I include the version of Consuelo Velásquez's, Besame Mucho, sung by Diana Krall.

I adore and love all of these ladies.

Arguably, one of the most beautiful things ever written, sung by a legendary voice.

Mon coeur s'ouvre à la voix, Dalila's aria from Samson et Dalila, by Camille Saint-Saens.

Oh, and we mustn't forget Fernanda de Utrera! Who, you ask? Why, she is considered by many who contest such things, as the greatest singer of the Soleá of the 20th century, if not of all times. Soleá is what is known as a palo of Flamenco (in this case, the Mother of palos--it's a strain, or branch of the art form) and is accompanied by the guitarist playing in the Phyrigian mode. BTW--the gent playing the guitar in this clip is none other than Diego del Gastor, who was one of the legendary masters of Flamenco. If I had to name my favorite Flamenco guitarist, he would be the one.

You'll never get just meat and potatoes out of me. Here, I dish you out a little paella.

Funny, when I was on the previous page, I was thinking about posting some of La Caita.

Don't forget about French, German and Belgian cuisine.
