Looking for computer guru

I need a Windows 10 whiz kid....

While using Microsoft Edge, the keyboard functions in strange ways.
In one email account, the keyboard will only type message text while holding one or the other mouse button.
It types fine in header locations (address, CC, reference lines)

When typing on this website, the keyboard gets very sluggish, taking up to 15 seconds for text to appear on the page after typing.
Very strange.......

Anyone have any thoughts on this issue??

most fixes for edge are fixed with:

Head over to the “. . .” button and choose Settings. Then click “choose what to clear” under Clear browser data. Clear out your browsing history and cache, then reboot Edge and see if it’s fixed.

It is also good practice to apply any windows updates - it may be a bug that is fixed in a newer patch....

Thanks, but it didn't help the email program. This site seems to be working better, tho.

The email won't even give me a cursor in the message area unless I hold a mouse button.

I just deleted anything that said "MICROSOFT" from my computer :thumb:

As far as your keyboard issues... especially sluggish responses. Open the Task Manager, and look for the real time processor load and especially real time memory usage.

Right Click on "My Computer" and go to "properties" and it should tell you your actual memory usage.

You will have a certain amount of virtual memory, but if your real-time memory usage exceeds the actual memory amount significantly, things will go wonky.

Wouldn't hurt to download and run Malwarebytes just to make sure you don't have anything.

Go to ninite.com

Click the check box for Opera/Firefox/Chrome, etc.

Download and install.

When it pops open the first time click "set as default"

Profit

Use a different browser? Even better yet, use a different OS and browser. I can recommend Xubuntu 16.04 LTS at work and home (http://xubuntu.org/). If you don't need any special apps the require Windows, then its worth the learning curve, IMO. It comes "out of the box" with:

- Xfce desktop. Lighter than KDE and Gnome but has enough desktop apps to be complete.
- Firefox web browser.
- Pidgin IM (can use it with Microsoft Lync using pidgin-sipe).
- Thunderbird mail client (can use it with MS Exchange 2007+ with IMAP, Lightning and another add-on).
- XFburn to make data or audio CD/DVDs.
- PDF viewer.
- Bunch of stuff...

I also added LibreOffice to edit and create MS Office docs and spreadsheets, VirtualBox to run Windows 7 in an VM, Chrome, etc. You can go crazy and install whatever you want. :) Also really easy to keep up to date.

Don't use Edge. It's a turdwaffle like most Microsoft stuff, other than their OS. Use the other browsers, as suggested above.

Sluggish keyboard response may be due to dozens or hundreds of scripts running in the background. The Edge browser still lacks most of the flexible tools that have long been available for Chrome and Firefox to tailor browsers to suit our preferences.

For example, I find bike forums unnavigable without blocking some scripts and ads. The bloat is incredible, worse than most sites I've visited. Without blocking scripts and ads I can type a letter and wait several seconds before it appears onscreen. Scrolling is equally sluggish. A photography website I used to moderate got that bad, and it drove away many members. Even paid subscribers logged in had similar problems, because while they saw fewer ads the tracking scripts still ran constantly in the background and slowed everything to a crawl.

I use Chrome while logged into my Google/gmail account for the continuity between PCs, tablets and iPhone. If I'm browsing some particular topic, or shopping for bike stuff, I can pick up where I left off easily when I move from the desktop to the tablet or phone. I don't object to ads and tracking, as long as it's done efficiently. In fact I appreciate some of that stuff because it helps notify me promptly of sales and deep discounts on items I'm interested in, especially when those sales last one day only.

But when I don't care to be tracked and don't need that convenience I'll use Firefox with tracking blocked, sometimes via proxies when researching news stories. I suppose I'm still paranoid from my former job as a journalist.

I updated our low end 2012 laptop from Windows 7 to 10 during the free update period. Decided against doing so for my 2012 desktop that I use mostly for photo editing. Glad I didn't update the desktop. No matter how much I tweak the laptop it's become a slug, barely usable for anything but web browsing, email and occasional video streaming 720 or lower rez.

The main reason I've stuck with Windows is because it's easier for compatibility with Adobe editing products. And the auto-updates are hassle free. I don't have the time or patience to do that stuff myself anymore.

I've used Firefox for years.
Edge was new to me, as is Windows 10.
Guess I'll stick with FF.
It works fine.
