CL selling tips- have them come to you.

Learned a lesson the other day. I was going to sell an IPAD with an agreed upon price based on numerous pics, details. The buyer apparently tells me he sends someone to buy for him. I agreed to meet him halfway between my area and his. Upon meeting I was lowballed. It seems to me that if a buyer knows you have traveled a bit that they are in a position to lowball since they know you might not want to drive back empty handed with no cash.

I now will no longer drive to the buyer on CL, anyone been taken by the meet me at my place or halfway game?

I make them meet me in front of my local police department when I am selling something.

Weeds out the criminals and makes all honest parties feel more safe with the transaction.

I have bought some great bargains on CL and sold a few too. Never once have I had any issues but I do try hard to go over everything when talking on the phone.
If I am buying, I go to them and if they are buying, they come to me. You can eliminate disappointments by posting a honest ad with recent pictures. Then answer their questions honestly and voice your expectations realistically for everyone's mutual satisfaction with the deal.

I always have them come to my place of business.
Exceptions are large, heavy, bulky items.....I have them come to my house for those...

There's your first nope. That's a classic warning sign of a scam looking for a place to happen.

If I didn't want to meet someone at a safe, mutually agreeable spot I'd just stick with selling via ebay, Amazon, etc.

This. I've sold a few things at local coffee shops. Easy, safe, convenient, and I don't have strangers wandering around my property. Even better - you get to drink coffee while you're waiting!

I had a landlord come into my garage to look at a refrigerator I was selling for my MIL, I took pictures as good as I could, but when he got there he found a bunch of cosmetic flaws that I could barely see, and didn't want to pay the asking price. Since it was my house, and it wasn't my fridge, I didn't have the liberty to budge on the price, so it was easy. MIL ended up giving the fridge to a youth worker at her church.

I have 2 storage units rented for misceallaneous this and that's ---

I try to have folks meet me at the facility in broad daylight --- they have lots of cameras, and I can use one of the units as a staging area for my for sale stuff anyway

I try to alway meet at a public place. Starbucks, Walmart, a place with cameras is great
I am always surprised how many times people don't answer or show up.
I guess they don't really want to sell there stuff?
