Saw a used Snap-on screwdriver at a flea market. Asked seller how much?
Seller said fifty cents; you have change? I don't, I replied. Picked up a Craftsman screwdriver
next to it. One dollar for both? Seller agrees. When I got home; I looked at all of the screwdrivers
I already had. Sold the flea market Snapon on Ebay. It went for US$20.

My dad picked up a 1920s Harley Davidson dash panel for a couple of bucks at a flea market. A few years later I was helping him navigate the then new wonders of eBay and we got a thousand for it.

I picked up a three-ply hiking/mountaineering shell for 80 and after a decade of use, got 325 back in company credit. This for a product the warranty manager didn't know existed and didn't believe that company made until I sent a photo.

I still have the matching pants. And the replacement shell.

My last motorcycle. It was a 96 BMW that had just had the12,000 mile service and new tires. The PO put a bunch of options on it and sold it to me for about half the price of a new one and this one was starting to get broken in. I still wonder how I got such a good deal.

Honestly, our first home going into foreclosure and the bank not opting to come after us over it.

We had a major septic issue with a home that never should have been built on the lot. Two (septic) systems in, and a $20K MAYBE fix looming on the horizon with the EPA breathing down our neck over the creek and pond next door. We really had no option but to give it back.
What really sucks is the fact that they sold the house to some other unsuspecting home owner and the issue has only gotten worse. We planted a willow tree at the end of the septic field to pull water. In the time the house was empty, it and the other plants we put out to help mitigate the issue died from lack of water. The new home owner didn't pick up on the why, and now has a swamp. I am sure they are now getting the EPA letters....

Hmmm, bought a guitar for 35 bucks sold it 350, bought another for 89 sold for 600, another for 75 bucks got 900, another for 200 sold for 1600 or 1700. Bought a lunch box for 3 bucks got 75 for it. It goes on, But the best deal was when I asked my wife out for our first date and I paid the tab. I still wonder how I got her, however I think she wonders too.

Saw a Samsung Soundbar sitting in the open-box/yellow-tag area of the Best Buy for $69. No manual, no subwoofer, no cables, nothing. Shelf price on a new one was $329 at the time, I figured I was fine with 75 bucks for just the soundbar itself. Grab it and start to walk it over to the counter to pay for it, and a passing employee sees me and says, "Did you get the rest of the parts for that?" I said I had not, so he walks over to an aisle endcap, swings it open to reveal some sort of hidden pile of home electronics, and hands me the wireless subwoofer, power cables, optical cable, and manual still sealed in it's bag. I did have to order a remote (necessary to pair the subwoofer to the soundbar) from the Best Buy "parts warehouse." It was $7.

Ordered an open-box vacuum cleaner from the Amazon Warehouse-- "like new, will arrive repackaged." Extricate all of the bits from the gigantic cardboard box it came in and assemble it to find it's missing a gasket that goes between the hose assembly and the dust canister. Absolutely no way it will work without it. I look up the replacement part on an appliance site-- about 40 bucks. I paid $80 for the open-box vacuum. Get on Amazon chat, and the guy just says, "We're giving you a refund. Do whatever you want with the vacuum. Give it to charity, throw it away, it's up to you." I take it out to my workshop and construct a gasket for it out of about 10¢ worth of self-adhesive hobby foam. New price on the vacuum $129, my cost, about 10¢.

Found some Bessey woodworking clamps at the Home Depot in clearance-- usually $50 each, on clearance for $20 each. Grabbed the last four. They rang up for $2 each. Also found a 4-foot Stanley FatMax bubble level in a clearance bin at the Lowe's-- normally $50, now $6. Didn't even need it and bought it anyway.

I got a broken Samsung tv from a family member. Before trashing it I did a quick online search that indicated some bad capacitors inside. A trip to the (then open) Radio Shack and a few dollars later I had a working tv that I still use to this day.

In 1980, Pan Am had a 747 route to Rio that started in SF, stopped in LA then went on to Rio. You could fly standby on the SF to LA portion for $13. I walked up to the counter, handed the agent $13 and walked on to the plane. I forget how I got back to SF.

I shop at Grocery Outlet, it's my most favorite place in the world now, and I can hardly bear to shop in regular grocery stores.

Bought two Man Cave beef&bacon (60/40) burger 2-pks (4 patties) for $1.99 ea. I figured for $1/burger it was worth a try. The hands-down BEST burgers I have ever grilled, near the top of burgers I have ever eaten. Went back for more, they were down to 99c/2pk. I bought them all. 19 2pks, stuffed them all in my freezer.

A year or two back I was able to score 4-ct boxes of Johnsonville pork/jalapeno/cheddar patties for 97c each, those were really good too.

Often great deals on near-expired premium yogurt and juice ($1.99 for the big Naked mango-tango), weird cereals for $1/box, etc.

I showed up to a Toyota dealership a few hours before they opened, and was able to be the first in line, to buy a loss leader vehicle, advertised as only one available at that price, which was thousands below cost.

Too many to name. I used to travel a lot on business and stopped in every small town pawn shop and thrift store along the way. Picked up some bargains in pocket knives, good ol' unfashionable single shot plinking .22 rifles that I'd resell in the big city or give to family members as gifts.

Lots of bargains in shortwave radios after the 1990 Gulf War fascination faded. Radio manufacturers boosted sales of shortwave radios to take advantage of the sudden interest in international news. But most folks lose interest quickly when they tire of the static and realize you can't get great shortwave reception with just a telescoping whip antenna. So I snagged some great Sony, Magnavox/Philips and other portables for cheap, including a Sony ICF-2010 for $75 that I still use. Up until the past 10 years there were still many international broadcasters. Alas, most are gone now, so mostly I tune in occasionally for pirate radio broadcasters.

Got a like-new Honda Ascot VT500 for $500 from a military guy who was being transferred overseas. Great low-maintenance commuter bike, wish I'd kept it. Rode the heck out of it and resold it for what I'd paid.

Rescued some pawn shop puppy Fender amps from the Paul Rivera era. Rivera hot rodded some rockin' little amps. I snagged a Super Champ for around $25 and Princeton Reverb II for under $100. Cranked up, that tiny Super Champ sounded amazing. Eddie Van Halen used to tour with one as a backstage warmup amp because it mimicked the tone of his customized Marshall amps at a miniature volume. Alas, the Super Champ was high maintenance when played loud and burned through a tube that was fairly difficult to find. And while the Princeton Reverb II was touted as a competitor with Mesa Boogie compact amps, it really couldn't hang in a club. I played with a jam band a couple of times and the little Fender really didn't have the power of the lead guitarist's Mesa Boogie. Eventually I quit playing and put all my amps on consignment. Last I heard they all went to collectors in Japan.

I got my bike for $125 almost 10 years ago. It had new a new chain as well as new wheels, tires, brake pads, and cables as well as the rest of a tune up. And it fit me, I still think that's a sweet bargain.

Sports Authority closing in the SF bay area. The guy handling the liquidation sales at four of the stores gave me a deal on their bike shop tools I could never repeat. I ended up with two full sets of Park shop tools and sold the leftovers for more than what I paid for everything.
