Edge sucks monkey butt

As part of a work related log in issue with Chrome, I started using a different browser for personal stuff. I really don't like Firefox, so I landed on Edge to give it a go.

Every day is a random lock up, random closing, etc. There is some manner of keystroke I hit, something/shift that causes a little command window (copy/paste) dropdown to pop up in the upper left corner. Won't go away, can't esc back out of it. Only thing to do is close window. LOVES to do that on long posts I haven't saved.

Thinking I may have to look at Firefox or some other flavor again. The only redeeming factor is that it now processes and deals with .pdf

Despite the fact that I'm starting to perceive Google as EVIL, Chrome does seem to perform the best. I am pretty used to, and mainly use it for that reason, Firefox. Just have to dump that cache every so often...

Typical Microsnot crap. They tried to claim it's one of the faster browsers. I give Edge another try once or twice a year, just to see if it's improved. It's still crap.

Mostly I use Chrome for stuff where I don't care about being tracked, or actually want to be tracked. For example, allowing targeted ads often pops up good sales on stuff I'm actually interested in. I've snagged some great buys from Amazon, Nashbar, Jenson and others by allowing Chrome to present targeted ads based on my browsing history.

Allowing some tracking also enhances finding YouTube videos that interest me. Occasionally I'll search for a video -- music, old movie or documentary, news, etc. -- that should be somewhere on YouTube, but it doesn't pop up immediately. Within a day or so it'll appear, and it turns out the video has been there for years but buried.

When I don't care to be tracked I'll use Firefox or other browser with tools to thwart at least some tracking. Mostly for researching news articles and issues on potentially controversial political topics. The downside to using Google in Chrome is the filter bubble. It thinks that because we're searching for something we want to see more of the same stuff.

That's rarely the case when I read news. As a former journalist, I don't necessarily like or want to read some news issues, but I need to dig deeper to check the veracity of sources, etc. I don't need or want the kind of "help" that Chrome/Google impose on us through filter bubbles. I want every search to be a blank slate. That works better with more private browsers. But it's slower. That's the downside of blocking and filtering some stuff. And some search tools don't work well, if at all, with scripts blocked. So it can be tedious.

Nope, don't really have an opinion on U2, or their guitarist. I do hope what's his name recovered from the bike wreck a while back.

I am a lucky guy in that regard. My fair complexion leads to only having to shave a couple of days a week, and I can use soap. Razors last me forever.

I'm just glad it wasn't about the Ford crossover. I have a thing for first-generation Ford Edges, and our CX-9 is on the same platform.

How is this Foo?

Seriously, I can get the same problems in IE 11. At the worst I have to open a text file and copy/paste.

But I'm not having that problem HERE.

lol me too!

I recently got my high schooler a laptop with windoze 10 on it, edge comes up with this graphic claiming it is faster than ffox/chrome. Setting aside whether the test was fair/comprehensive itself, if you look at the scale on the graph, it is blowing up a miniscule difference so that it looks huge. I showed it to my son as an example of dishonest statistics.

Everybody should read everything Edward Tufte has published. Start with Visual Display of Quantitative Information.

Actually the Ford Edge was the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title. Interesting that the Mazda CX-9 is based on the same platform. I wouldn't have guessed that. Isn't the CX-9 a full size SUV and the Edge a mid size?

I digress. OP, just use practically any other browser that turns you on. Edge is still pretty new so needs some time to work out the kinks, I guess. I usually use Firefox or Chromium (free version of Chrome). Also need to have a copy of Firefox 52 ESR lying around as well. Thats the last version with NSAPI so I can use it to run Java based console software like IBM IPMI, HP iLO, etc. I also recommend that you get an ad blocking host list and put it into your hosts file:

http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

This can make the browsing experience a little more pleasant. The hosts file is usually C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts on windows and /etc/hosts on Linux or MacOS.

The 2008-2015 CX-9 is like an 2008-2012(?) Edge with a... large posterior with room for a third row. No denying, it's the largest thing on that platform.

I prefer oldies and have nice stereo gear for that and I'm finding it hard not to make an offer on a 1982 Columbia Clipper cruiser that a member converted to an MTB...

I once gave an Open Road cruiser like it to a friend for all of 10 or 15 bucks and he made me look silly by replacing the bearings and a few other things which made the bike like beyond a dream. I really like small cantilevered Western Flyer like frames as well.
