The conversation of the Klingons is PAINFUL!

Acting of the rest of the cast is horrendous. Hard to believe there can be anyone worse than Shatner but this whole cast is sure giving him a run for the money.

Doubtful I will be watching the rest of the season.

I had it on long enough to recognize Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) from TWD. It started late here because of the Packer-Bengal OT game. Didn't bother to finish Since I missed the first half hour. Sunday night is a competitive time slot. Unless it gets moved to a weeknight, it sounds like it's gonna fizzle.

That is the other issue I have with it. I like to record my shows so when a game runs over as it so often does, the schedule does not get updated. Placing it on Sunday night tells me CBS does not have much confidence in the show.

Sonequa Martin-Green is pretty much the only redeeming value of the show. She is a hotty.

Compared to some of acting being done on 60's TV, Shatner wasn't the worst.

The old scifi franchises are running out of material they can sell to current audiences. The scifi genre is nearly done.

Star Trek does fine when the studio invests the time and money to do a good job. First Contact is a good example.

Scifi is expensive when done right. Guardians of the Galaxy made 773 million, and spawned a successful sequel.
That was a fun summer flick, they took the time to do it right.

Scifi was around a hundred years ago, it will still be around a century from now.

You realize that last nights pilot was free but from now on you have to subscribe to it for money.

Are they going to show future episodes over the air? I understood only online.

Interesting. I just checked and I don't see it on my schedule in my PVR software. Maybe it is only online. After the first episode, I can't see why anyone would pay for that mess. And they sure had a lot of hype for months. They never mentioned only the first episode was free from my memory.

I haven't found any of the newer ST franchises to be worth watching....with that said, it really isn't uncommon for a pilot (which is supposed to GRAB your attention) to be fairly bad. The actors haven't worked out a relation with each other yet, still don't really know the character.

Correct. You'll need CBS All Access to view future episodes.

I thought it was commercial free. They have recent OTA episodes on their site that is crammed with commercials. I thought if you joined you don't see the commercials.

I pay that and more to my satellite TV provider, then an added fee for DVR service to zap the commercials afterwards.
Long gone are the days of trying to stay up late for a favorite program, only to be woke up by either the national anthem, test pattern,or snow.
My favorite pass time lately has been rewinding a recorded program, and see how long I was asleep while it was playing.

As a lifelong ST fan, primarily of the original series but having seen at least some episodes of every series, I thought the first episode was pretty good.

I wonder if there's a way to beat the system, such as waiting until all episodes are released for streaming, signing up for one month, binge-watching them, and then cancelling the CBS subscription.

I too am annoyed at paying for content over and above the cost of cable TV. It's not so much the amount of money, but the principle, to me.

I read a review online that says it's $6 a month with commercials, $10 a month without commercials.

I'm sorta interested in the show, but I won't pay the price for yet another service. I honestly can't remember the last time I watched something on CBS, so the rest of programming available on their All Access service would be lost on me.

I think there will be. My guess is they will broadcast it eventually, maybe next summer. I have Netflix and Prime, and it may show up there (eventually, Netflix ain't Speedy Gonzalez). I pay way too much already, they can go suck eggs.

I didn't enjoy it. Terrible acting, weak story, Klingons look weird. I almost think that the Orville is a better star trek show and that's terrible too lol.

That's what I've been hearing. I bet they cancel, instead of working on it.

The absurd plot device of instant holographic communication across the galaxy to get bad direction from Admirals and hand holding from Vulcan daddy-surrogates cuts the deck out from under the independent action and judgement all "navys" counted on from commanders since before the time of Nelson.
"Wait just a minute violently hostile Kligons while I call home."

The hierarchical and tradition bound Klingon in charge gives his sacred clan weapon to a nobody based on a maudlin/sentimental speech?
Big softy.

Let's put a person genetically determined to flee from any possible danger near the top of the chain of command.
"Run away!"

Mutiny is punished by a mild verbal warning, like taking the wrong parking place.
"Now don't ever take illegal command of this ship again or you'll be so sorry, maybe."

Bad, just bad and un-engaging even if free TV.

Sure, I pay for Amazon prime and Netflix... and "cable service;" for Amazon and Netflix, I get commercial free showings... Cable of course gives me commercials.

But I am NOT going to add yet another damn pay service to watch one particular show, that still has "limited commercials."

Just not going to happen.

Heck I wouldn't do Amazon prime except for the fact that I also get merchandise through them.

I really am fed up with this steady drip drip drip off various services sucking off of my income. Yeah, I'm an old fart... I remember when TV was "free" but you only had 4 channels... and Telephone was under 30 a month... now, between telephone, cable TV and internet, I pay around $300 a month for "telecom." Sure, it is better than the old days, but it is a relatively large expense compared to my other "utilities." The last thing I want is to encourage a lot of subscription TV services. (Star Trek just isn't "that good.")

Ah, but there are "tongue in cheek" laugh moments with Orville...

Indeed it isn't Star Trek, but they have managed to push at least a couple of socially interesting issues out there.
