Crabgrass seedling?

Any ideas what this is? I had my yard aerated and seeded just under two weeks ago. A lot of this is sprouting up. If this is all crabgrass, itíd be crazy just for the amount that is sprouting from the seed they put down. :-(

I think I got my answer already. Itís wheat seed. I guess itís supposed to help the grass grow and will just die off after a couple mows.

It hasn't sprouted sideways yet, so hard to say - give it a few more days. You can buy fertilizer with weed control substances in it, so try that if it does turn out to be crabgrass. Just keep it healthy (water, fertilize 1-2X per year)and it should keep the weeds to a minimum. You're in Illinois? The winter chill should make everything go dormant, so you might have to wait until spring to apply fertilizer with herbicide.

Yep thatís pretty much my plan on weeding. I think the pic above is definitely wheat seed. Itís from when I put down straw on the bare spots in the yard to keep the soil moist. Whoops. Ha! Someone said it will just die off after a couple mows though and could actually be used to nurse the soil and other grass seed along.
