My Home town caught fire
Napa County, Atlas peak Fire.. that was where my grand mother taught school and my father was born..

In Oregon the Fir was burned standing on the slope... there , like Santa Rosa, the Doug Fir was already sawn into studs,

shipped and built into a house ..

sending wishes for rain down there..

I've ridden up Atlas Peak Rd. a number of times to the closed gate at the top. Beautiful area past all the vineyards and great views of the valley. Terrible how all the fires are devastating Napa and Sonoma counties.

I rode from
Santa Rosa to Petaluma as all of it was happening. Went to sleep after the batteries on all my stuff died and found a 24hr restaurant. Woke up to the news and people talking about leaving town and loosing stuff. Spent most of the day with ashes falling from the sky.

One friend lost her house in Santa Rosa. Another was on vacation last weekend and returned just in time to receive Stage 1 evacuation orders. Another reported that 6 of her friends had lost houses.

All of this is very, very tough to watch.

We have a niece getting married in Napa on Nov 4. The wedding is in the downtown area, so currently not in danger...but I'm sure the signs of the blazes will be everywhere. Our go to Cabernet is William Hill, which is reported to have sustained minor damage...maybe the 2017 vintage will be described as having a "hint of smoke" in it's flavor profile...but I hope not. Big blow to one of the economic engines of California.
