IMO no smartphone is 'worth it'. That's why I chose not to get one.

Well, you asked a subjective question, and nobody else seems to have an opinion...

I agree. I think of them as fairly powerful pocket computers that just happen to enable phone calls.

Here's a little hint... You can take that 1080p video and view it on a 65 inch TV. Or, you can upload that 1080p video to youtube to share with others who are going to watch it on a computer screen or a TV. Yes, 1080p video from a phone is worth it.

My phone takes great pictures to view on a phone. It is horrible to view elsewhere or do anything with. I wish my phone took great pictures, but it's a $70 phone. I'm not paying $900 for a phone because it will take better pictures than a $200 camera while a $300 camera will be better quality and give me the controls needed to take those better quality pictures.

I don't know phones, but can't you do that with a non-1080 phone?

My phone(Motorola Moto X Pure Edition) can record in 4K/ultra HD.
But screen only supports 1080. If you do a lot of net stuff; email,
surfing, etc. - I think a big screen size might be the bigger priority.
But then it gets more uncomfortable to hold in your hand and also
stuffing in your pocket.

Yes you can, but it won't look as good at a 1080p video, which is the point.

No, I meant if you don't have a 1080 phone, but you stream a 1080 video through your phone to a device that can handle it, like a TV, would the end result have the original resolution, or would it be downsampled to the weakest link?

Streaming online is different than streaming a video you took from your phone. I don't know how other stuff works, I have Chromecast. When you stream from the phone, you are just telling the Chromecast to go out and get said video on it's own. Your phone is just the control, not the source.

What my point was for example, I am into watching the paramotor video channels right now. Tucker Gott and Kyle O are the 2 I'm watching now. Tucker does video with a GoPro on his helmet and his foot facing up to him. He'll turn the Gopros off during his flights and use his phone to take video and insert those into the editing. He is producing video to publish online, thus he has 1080p video from his phone that he is publishing, then I am watching it in 1080p on youtube on my 55 inch TV. Doesn't matter whether the quality is useless for him viewing it on his phone. He's publishing it for everyone to see on whatever device.

Fair enough, but I'm guessing windhchaser is not chasing the dream of becoming a big-money utuber, he's chasing the consumer end of things. And windh of course.
