Alternatives to cable/satellite television

I have Spectrum cable and I want to get rid of it. The ridiculous cost is only one reason but it's the biggest one. Does anyone have one of these live streaming services to recommend? Here's some I read about:

Hulu TV

YouTube TV

Sling TV

DirectTV Now

Same boat, but here is my issue. I want to watch:

Alfred Hitchcock, Jack Benny, Beverly Hillbillies, Sanford and Son, etc.

(along with sports, news and educational stuff)

I would also like to be able to watch youtube videos on the TV.

But, youtube TV doesn't seem to have any good OLD shows. I want something simple that doesn't crap out if it rains. Best choice for me is...???

I record OTA. I get my Walking Dead fix through Amazon. That is the only TV I pay for.

I've had NF, Prime, or HBO Now on again off again for the last few years using my Roku 3, which I love. I like certain aspects of all three, but only enough time to justify one at a time. I've considered Hulu, YTR, and Sling, but that's as far as it's gone. I'm simply not much of a tv watcher during the week...no time for the idiot box.

The GF cut the cable a year ago and replaced it with OTA. She mainly watches the news and reruns of 70's and 80's shows - it's kind of like a time warp for her.
I haven't had a TV in 14 years and get enough of it when I'm at her place, I'd rather read or play solitaire on my iPad than watch TV.

Has anyone here checked out Playstation Vue? I got an email some time ago saying that it's available on Roku. Seems to be a bit pricey to me, but we haven't had cable or satellite TV since the '80's.

Amazon. We're already Prime subscribers and there are plenty of choices. But I don't care about keeping up with the latest TV shows, and I'm patient about waiting for movies that interest me.

I used Hulu free for awhile, but haven't bothered the past year. It seemed okay.

No interest in Netflix or anything that costs more money. Just not a big TV watcher.

Recording OTA (one-time purchase of Tablo personal dvr, plus not-included hard drive, plus antenna) is good if you are in an area with reception, I'm not. Or at least I wasn't willing to put in the research and effort and repeated roof-climbing to get to where I could reliably pull in signals from two main antennas, about 70deg apart, both spilling weakly over the hills into my town's valley.

So when we cut the cable, we started with Roku + Netflix + Sling. Roku has free NBC/ABC/CW channels (with commercials), Sling got us a good selection of cable (AMC+FX+TNT+...) and their Cloud DVR service seems a good value for only $5/mo. No access to CBS. Oh well. Buhbye Big Bang Theory, Survivor, Amazing Race.

Before long though we found that Sling was pretty bad service, it would freeze/buffer a lot, sometimes crash and lose its place in what you were watching. So we ditched it, and we're currently Netflix and whatever is free on Roku. Netflix has been rock-solid, and we almost never watch any NBC/ABC through their Roku channels. I think there's probably a few episodes available now of things we like: The Middle, Fresh off the Boat, Blackish, Modern Family, Good Place, SNL.

We still have access to WAY more content than we could ever get through in this lifetime. But we're planning on getting hulu soon too, as there are some specific things on there we'd like to watch.

We might get Sling again for a couple months in college basketball tournament season, catch some subset of games on ESPN, TNT.

Roku and Netflix... not everything I might want, but plenty of content.

Download the occasional movie for $3 or so.

NBCSportsGold for watching bike races... although they didn't cover Lombardia, b@sturds.

I'm currently working my way thru the free promos for Netflix, Hulu and Sling TV. If I can get an antenna that pulls in distant stations it will make things simpler. So far, Netflix is ok. Next month I'll try the free Hulu or Sling offering. You don't have to be right the first time!

After you try all three for free, I'd be interested to hear your comparison and what you choose.

Got Netflix 2 years ago when I separated. I still have way more to watch that I never watched. Still have Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy to finish. Shameless is decent. Never watched Sunny in Philly. Currently watching that. There's another one I'm currently watching. A ton of TV series with 5-7 seasons that I haven't seen.

I have a Roku player in both the bedroom and living room. And I subscribe to both Hulu and Netflix streaming for just over $21/month. I also have Amazon Prime. They all have their advantages. For example I have been working late and night shifts for the past 20 years, so I have not watched any prime time TV. So Hulu has been good for some old TV shows like 3rd Rock From The Sun, Golden Girls, Seinfeld, X-Files, etc. It's all new to me anyway. Netflix carries some CW and SyFy channel content. And, I have finally finished Dexter and Sons Of Anarchy

Both Netflix and Hulu have some good original content. And, if you are a fan of some foreign content from Australia and UK, it's available also. I have been late to the Vampire genre party, so I am just now finishing up the last seasons of Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and The Originals. I had to temporarily subscribe to HBO Now(1 month free trial) to get the last season of True Blood, so I thought I would give another month to get through Game Of Thrones. So much to stream with so little time to watch it all.

I get newsfeeds from France 24 & Aljazeera off subscribing to their YouTube site.

I watch movies on the free stream sites like Putlocker. Boxing Pay Per Views I split with partners at one of their places.

The only thing I miss not having cable TV or even picking up local stuff with rabbit ears is The Deadliest Catch
