I too enjoy pot-stirring. And while he's not throwing down Eminem numbers, he seems to do okay:

Kanye West has had six songs exceed 3 million in digital sales as of December 2012, placing him third in overall digital sales of the past decade. West has the fourth most RIAA singles certificates in history with 68, and is the highest selling rapper in the Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum lists. On top of that he has sold over 50 million singles in the United States making him the second highest male and sixth highest selling artist of all time in singles sales. As of 2017, West has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards making him eleventh in the list of most awarded artists of all time and sixth for most grammy nominations with 68.

No matter your feelings about Kanye as a person or an artist, the man can write a verse, produce a record, and make that record sell.

I think Jimi might've approved SRV's almost note-for-note cover of one of his songs.

Although SRV didn't really better it, imo.

Jimi's left handed Stratocaster was unique in it's tone. Slanting the bridge pickup in the opposite direction is probably difficult to thoroughly duplicate in the pickup-wrapping of orthodox Stratocasters although at least one pickup manufacturer claims to do so.

As a musician, I can appreciate all music. One thing I know for sure is Great Sales does not mean great music or talent. But what is does prove is their is a niche for everyone and every type of music.

SRV would be the first to tell you he was no Jimi Hendrix. Although Stevie was "technically" better player and singer he was simply replaying the unmatched innovative songs of Jimi just smoother.

Jimi Hendrix tone isn't hard to replicate it's his innovative sounds and songs where he really shines. The person who's tone is hard to replicate and the one SRV tried the most to duplicate was Albert King.
