What is going on with restaurant names today?

What is going on with restaurant names today? Used to be you opened a restaurant and you named it after your family name, your given name or a families given name or maybe even the street or city name.

Now there are these odd names for restaurants. Pork and Beans, Waffles Incaffeinated, Meat and Potatoes are just a few fo the names I would consider unusual. Is this trend hitting your town? What is going on??

Its just fashion. Like Bell Bottoms or Leg Warmers they come and go.

Mind you they do have some advantages. They say something about the food that the families name doesn't and if you ever want to sell the Business not having it tied to the families name is an advantage.

Shake Shack sucks, At least the chain one. Way over priced. I think I paid $14 at LAX for a crappy burger fries and a drink. Unless I was paying airport prices. Either way still horrible.

I dine at Andy Rooney's Bilious Monologues Cafe. The food is awful, the coffee is burnt, the waitresses always get my order wrong if they remember me at all. It's great. Gives me something to complain about. Not that complaining does any good. But it feels good.

Try this: next time you enter a restaurant, try to see the name of that restaurant as an advertisement piece inside that restaurant. Other than maybe the menu, I often do not see the name painted anywhere.

Just the opposite on bike frames.

Without name recognition, I resort to putting the name, etc. into "My Contacts" mobile phone. Only if I like the restaurant.

Pretty sure those were airport prices... then again, I've never eaten at one of the chain stores... just the small local Shack... and was a long time ago.

I don't have a phone, I know what I like until it gives me Alzheimers'/dementia.

Just the idea of "chocolate IPA" is bad enough.

Man, it's been a long time since I've been in a good one of those. As a kid, I remember stopping by one on vacation where you could get your root beer served in frosty mugs. Now I just see them in food courts where they just specialize in hot dogs and tater tots and think back to those good trips when I was a kid.

You can creatively delete letters from their name to come up with an entirely different slogan.

Chocolate has no place in any beer.

Says you.

Actually the flavor of chocolate can come from roasted grains... which DO belong in beers.

Naturally occurring is o.k., but not added chocolate flavor, unless you have a man bun and carry a murse.

We are in agreement.

It is amazing the flavors one can derive from malted grains, hops and yeast...

I still would not want a chocolate IPA... piney or citrus flavors, even tropical fruit... all OK... but bitter chocolate... uh, not so much. Chocolate is best as a sweet flavor... such as in a seasonal stout.

The right grains, with the right Belgian yeast and you get a mild clove flavored chocolate ale that will knock your socks off.
