Best advice people gave you.

Often we get advice from others that may not seem like a big deal at the time but in the hindsight of years gone by turns out to be really great advice. I'm sure we've all heard things like "don't buy a used watch from some shady guy like ahsposo", what's your addition to the list?
I'll start with"love me while you've got em" from an old vet about spending time with our pets while they're still healthy.

My Father kept telling me to do the best I could in school, and get higher education and I could write my own ticket. That was 35 years ago and I did not listen.
And my Father had his degree when he told me this.

My Father is an avid reader, and I am not.

"Don't marry her! Are you nuts? Here, I'll send you to one of the nation's finest colleges, totally free of charge."

I didn't take that advice.

My parents were absolutely correct.

Dammit.

If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

When I was 14 or 15 years old my Dad told me "Get involved in musical theater, it's a great way to meet girls."

Holy crap was he right! Thanks Dad!

Best advise I ever got.

When my wife and I got married it was at a local church that neither of us attended, which had been arranged by her father. The pastor agreed to meet with us to talk before he would actually agree to officiate. We talked with him at length, he agreed to marry us, and told us to always remember we were friends.

It has worked out wonderfully.

Trust no one. Not your wife, not your "best friend", not even your parents. *No one*.

You'll never be disappointed.

When I was in school they told us to imagine our mother looking at a tape of our actions while in court. Still good advice.

In 2007 a buddy and I were talking 401k funds and some of the ugly looking financial clouds coming over the horizon. "Nothing wrong with turning it into cash for a while" he said. That was really good advice.
