I just started watching Roman Empire on netflix.
It’s a drama about the roman empire, but contains interjections from authors, professors and historians, giving their academic interpretation about what’s going on from a sociological and historical perspective. Not nearly as good as Rome on HBO, but so far so good.

The wife is burning through the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina-- like five or six episodes in already. Boy howdy, if you or your children ever watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch back in the 90s, you're in for a surprise.

It's really well done, I must say. Dark. Not surprisingly, the Melissa Joan Hart version for kids had a lot less Satan in it.

Binge watched Orphan Black over the summer while recovering from car vs bike injuries. Good diversion while using the indoor trainer. I still have a crush on Helena, even though she looks like she smells bad.

Now I'm onto The Expanse. It's pretty good, but hasn't grabbed me like Orphan Black and Hannibal. Also trainer fodder. I usually watch TV only while riding the trainer. TV show lengths are perfect for training sessions.

My recent favorite TV show to just watch and enjoy is Detectorists. Love that impossibly gentle, silly show. It's the antithesis to everything I usually enjoy in mindless TV entertainment. No blood, zombies, mindless violence, lunatics. It's among the few shows I can rewatch and not get bored. It'd be nice to live where the worst we need to worry about is competition from fellow hobbyists and who's buying the next round.

I got through that this weekend, I really liked it.

Right now I'm most of the way through the 1st season of Designated Survivor, with Kiefer Sutherland as POTUS. I don't care if he's drunk and Canadian, I'd elect him. Really enjoying it. I'm also guiltily re-watching True Blood very slowly. Not really into it. I remembered the first couple of seasons being great before it tapered off into stupidity, but it really just isn't a great show, haha.

Newest season of Daredevil was kind of lackluster to me, but not bad.

And I loved Detectorists. I've tried to explain it to a few people and just can't do it justice.

This thread made me remember that we actually have a subforum for entertainment. Honestly I think it's dead enough that it should be moved into Foo though.

I have no recollection as top how I originally stumbled upon the Detectorists, but I watched the first 2 seasons in about a 36-hour span. It's absolutely fantastic. Now I'm just waiting for Amazon to move Season 3 to Prime. It aired almost a year ago, what are they waiting for?

I first saw Detectorists on our local public TV station. I'm betting they have a contract to be first to air the new seasons, so Amazon Prime subscribers need to wait a year.

I missed most of season 3 on public TV, didn't realize it was on until it was almost over. Ditto, waiting for it to hit Amazon Prime.

But I don't mind rewatching the first two seasons. Aimee-Ffion Edwards is adorable. Hell, the entire cast is adorable. They're like real life Winnie the Pooh characters.

When I have time, Altered Carbon on Netflix. I have to pay attention to follow what is going on.
I also like the new Magnum P.I. it's as campy as the old one, and Higgins is much better looking.

Parter has us watching The Romanoffs. Follows descendants of the Russian noble family in present day, with their heritage mostly playing only a bit role in any given storyline. Worth seeing.

Maniac. Liked it well enough. Touch of absurdist comedy to keep you on your toes -- how much is real and how much is just in one of the main characters' head(s)? I really, really like the smallest of touches that make it clear this is not current reality, with the poop-scooping robots. They could have done a better job playing up the PKD mindf**k aspects of reality vs. individual fantasy, gone a bit more Videodrome with the whole thing, but it was a fun series of speculative fiction.

I watched a few series of one season, with the second to be shot...later. If it's on a premium channel, I may see it years later. The one I remember now is American Gods.

At the moment I'm on season 1E17 of Law & Order: SVU. Its fascinating and frightening at the same time.

As to remakes, I'm pretty much boycotting all the remake shows outright. I sampled all of my previous favorites and the in-your-face PC is more than I can tolerate. Even so, I get glimpses of these shows at the gym. The fact that Hawaii Five-O is in its 8th season is also frightening.

Last night just finished Man in the High Castle (s3) and Catastrophe (s1) (both on Amazon Prime). Catastrophe is ok (edgy sexy comedy), but High Castle is fantastic!

Next up is probably Electric Dreams (need to keep enjoying Dick)

I watched 1 or 2 episodes and it didn't grab me. Maybe I need to try a little longer. (I'm a big fan of other british comedies, Spaced, British Office, Coupling, IT Crowd, ...)
