I am anxious to see if the Ryzen chips that are releasing have the power they are rumored to have. It's going to be good to see some real competition in the CPU market again. I would say the same about GPU as well, but don't think AMD has anything ready to bring to that table quite yet.

They've been taunting that for a couple of years now.

I was really stoked to see the Ray tracing GPUs from Nvidia finally hit the market 4th quarter last year. But the review so far leave me less than impressed thus far. In any event, competition is a good things, so we'll see what they have to offer the consumer for the foreseeable future next week

Yup, time for "taunting" to head to market.

What don't I expect from CES, anything great, awesome or new from Apple or MS. (Does Apple even do CES?)

To be honest VR kind of came and went. For a moment it was king CES and gaining lots of attention. But as of late, the newness has worn off and the fervor has begun to wane as of late. I doubt if it'd be in the Top 5 things of interest, or even mentioned at this year's show. We'll see?

I don't believe VR ever fully reached maturity... it was still somewhere between Duke Nukem and Dragon's Lair in quality, and never reached the "reality" part.

Seems like there should be a lot more VR in the world of production CAD/CAM.

VR needs an Asian conglomerate to get over the hurdles to widespread acceptance. Developing a VR game, and VR needs a killer game like Doom the way PCs did, is even more expensive than current video games. We're talking hundreds of millions. And the headsets need refinement. So not only is there a need for a well thought out 2nd gen headset, they will need to write off development costs in the hopes of selling many millions of them. Or some other strategy that won't keep millions from purchasing them.

I think part of this is gestation. This turned out to be tougher than anyone thought, and it may be just a matter of time before the hardware is really ready, and just maybe, at that point, game developers will see the cash cow at the end of the rainbow (sorry).

I might hafta break down and buy some 64 bit video encoding software with a Premiere style timeline, and that will encode MPGs. to replace my ancient crash-happy 32 bit MGI Videowave.

And about the only one with that kind of timeline which encodes MPGs that I'm aware of is Pinnacle Studio 22. I've used their 32 bit product before. It's good and it's reasonably priced.

I am looking forward to an immersive VR system. Not just goggles, or hand waving or some weird ass treadmill. Some companies have toyed with it, but none have hit the market at a consumer level IMHO. One company out of Canada made a chest plate that used Tens to let you know you got shot. That's as cool as a fez.

Otherwise, I don't expect to see much in the consumer market that excites me. I am pretty subdued when it comes to tech on a personal level. I always hold off on the TV's, I despise the new sound systems and still prefer stereo. I replace my phone every two years not when something new comes out.

I would love to go to CES and find a kitchen appliance that has a 5 year warranty and no ethernet port.
I do not expect to find this.
