Hey boys and girls, off the bike till further notice

off the bike till further notice everybody.
spent this last week in the er because I just found out i have a clotting disorder and i have several large clots on both sides of my chest. They are a bit unpleasant as they break up. a leave a constant feeling of being short of breath. have to take blood thinners for for the next 6 months before another doctors visit to see if i am on them for the rest of my life.

hopefully if a couple of months i can get the bike back on the trainer, but it is just a hope at the moment.

I had a time after being hit by a car, I got a Concept 2 rowing machine to keep a bit of aerobic going. Not a bad 30 minute workout.

That sucks, but at least they caught it and you have hope to put it all in the rear view mirror in a little while. Good luck.

Yikes. Every time I think I've had it rough with my health, someone tops me. And I did get to ride my bike Monday. Hang in there!

Sorry to hear that.

I also have a clotting disorder and spent 2 weeks in hospital with DVT back in 2009 ... then was on Warfarin for a year. Although it was only my left leg filled with clots (not my lungs), I struggled with shortness of breath too.

Fortunately about 6 weeks after being sprung from hospital, I was back on the bicycle ... only a 6 km ride ... slow build up again ... but I was out there! So there's hope.

Been there...still there. In a way bike riding might have saved my life. When I was out riding my bike a couple of times I would get short of breath. One time was so bad I had to call it quits after a few miles and go home. I knew something wasn't right and went to the doctor. They found a nice fat DVT in my leg that was showering my lungs with mini clots. I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days until my blood got right. Boring! That was a number of years ago and I thought it was all behind me, but no. Started having leg pains last year. They found another DVT and now I'm on blood thinners for life. I have a Lupus caused blood disorder. The super sucky part is I'm on Xarelto, which is not generic and cost a good amount of money.

Chest clots?

Fortunately venous clots get filtered by the lungs, and broken up. But, not necessarily fun.

I would think an Exercycle would be good therapy. Perhaps something like a vintage Schwinn Airdyne, to get both the arms and legs pumping.

But, of course, discuss any therapeutic changes with the Doc.

so been off the blood thinner for about two weeks, and while i have been off, they took care of my skin cancer,

that meant cutting off a chunk of flesh, and attaching a wound vac. have had a small machine attached to me for the past two weeks sucking on it, apparently they are trying to get fatty tissue to grow so they can do a skin graft, still going to be off the bike for a little bit because they are talking about doing the graft from between my legs.

That's too much to deal with in such a short time - all the best for your recovery and keep that camera shutter finger working at least!

Yikes ! You have had a lot on your plate medically speaking, hoping things level out ! You just have to look at it like 100 years ago you'd probably be gone already. My Dad had one of those deep excisions & grafts on his nose & both older brothers have had melanomas. I've had more sun exposure than all of them so I fear my day is coming.

so off the wound vac for about 2 weeks now, waiting to get a skin graft at this point. And they are talking of taking that skin from my inner thigh. So I am sure that means a little longer off the bike. I have had nurses coming by the house everyday to change my bandages because I can't reach the spot one handed
