skirting the law much?

A friend of our son signed up for this site called "Sugar Daddies". She was recounting the story just a couple of weeks ago about her "shock" to find that in return for being available for a date night these men are buying expensive items for the young lady. Her first time out she found herself in a play off, as it were, with another young lady at dinner. The fellow made no qualms about letting them both know exactly what would be expected in return for the items.
She ended up walking away that night with a designer purse as a consolation prize that costs nearly a grand. I am unsure what the other girl must have gotten out of this.

The young lady worked at the upscale restaurant that my son also works. She signed up for this site perhaps three weeks ago. Two days ago she quit her job and moved to a Northside apartment that I would struggle to afford in a VERY nice side of town. She has been on a handful of these "dates" since then.

I find myself very curious as to how such a thing isn't considered prostitution. I mean, I suppose there is a selection and decision process, but it took basically two dates for this young lady to go from shock to obvious acceptance. Can only dangle a golden ring so long, I guess....

I offered Taco Bell and a ring out of a Walmart 25 cent vending machine trying to get her to go away. But to my horror she accepted

Based on watching TV as a kid and taking a law class in high school, I don't think prostitution is illegal, soliciting is. I'm probably won't and their probably both illegal. If not, there's your loophole.

Pornography is made when people are paid to have sex. The contract means it's not a crime.

But the real answer is that human relationships come in many forms. Some are deeply committed. Some are marriages of convenience. Some are a boy and a girl having physical relations without romantic involvement. In some relationships people have joint accounts, in some marriages people don't. There's enough gray area here. I've never been in this type of arrangement, but my understanding is it has more in common with a casual sex relationship than with prostitution, she doesn't advertise, walk the street, have a pimp, etc.

To be fair. I have no issues with legal prostitution. I feel like if a person wants to sell their body for cash, so be it. IMO the legalization of it and enforced health checks of the individuals involved leads to a safer situation anyway. Don't even think it's a bad idea for them to utilize a bodyguard, etc.
I feel like there are a whole lot of people out there who have no issue trading dinner, goods, w/e for sex. I know in my youth it was fairly common to get lucky for taking a girl out to a nice dinner, movie, event, etc. I never was the type (personally) to do such things without knowing someone a bit longer than that. "Casual" sex was never my thing. I wouldn't personally go so far as to pay for sex either since my immediate thought would be about that tree as it's been put.

I just find it surprising that such a site can exist, so blatantly exhibiting the fact that here is this place that (supposed) well to do men are offering goods in exchange for sexual encounters with young women. It's like, the police can sit and watch social media all day and yet no one seems to see this? I mean, IDK...

I was rather amazed as well at the lack of time it took for the young lady to completely go against what she said was her moral conviction a couple of weeks before. Just sort of SMH. One step further for me is the fact that this young lady has a boyfriend. Admittedly, I think that relationship is a bit cavalier/open anyway. He is away in college and I think the both of them just act like they are going out when together out of convenience.

Money is a powerful drug.

And I think prostitution should be legal too. What is the difference between that and some woman that goes to bed with a guy just because he bought her a fancy meal?

It would likely be safer for both parties if it were legal.

BTW, this also works for mature, wealthy women, i.e., cougars, and young men.

A friend of mine from college dated several of these women, he had a nice car, expensive clothes and a cool apartment. It wasn’t student loans that paid for these “necessities.”

The difference (commonly?) is the involvement of a third party (pimps).

(A "fancy meal" is kinda cheap, isn't it?)

Craigslist shut down one of their sections due to it being used for prostitution. The local free paper in Chicago (The Reader) used to have a similar problems with hookers too, and I think they quit that too.

Car dates and internet hookups will be harder to arrange without cars and internet as energy prices rise. Maybe the local priest can help with networking.

I knew somehow LCF and the apocalypse would get into this. As for the last thing Willis is puzzled.
