Was he the guy in that 📺 ad where he plays a travel agent, singing something about two tickets to somewhere?

A class act for sure. Saw him ~25 years ago at a rockfest in northern WI. Quite a crowd pleaser! I bought a few of his CDs when I got home.

I dreaded hearing Eddie Money on radio in his early days. Like the early albums by John "Cougar", it sounded like slick stuff commercially designed to produce hits, and was way overplayed on radio. The studios took a couple of likeable working class guys and tried to fluff them up for mass consumption.
Both of them got better with age, despite the usual rock star setbacks and struggles.
I never get tired of Eddie Money's comeback stuff like Shakin' and Take Me Home Tonight. But I'll be fine if I never again hear Two Tickets to Paradise, Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven, thanks.
I thought it was interesting that Eddie never liked his big comeback hit, Take Me Home Tonight, written by another team, not one of his own songs. He mostly liked the idea of recording with Ronnie Spector, who was at home washing dishes when he called to ask her to sing on the record. She'd dropped out of the biz, wanted nothing more to do with it. Now that Phil Spector has been imprisoned for murder we finally realize how crazy he really was. Imagine being married to the guy? No wonder Ronnie dropped out of sight. But Eddie made the song work despite not really liking it.
And thanks in part to Eddie Money and the boomer hunger for nostalgia, we get to see amazing stuff like this... Ronnie joining ? and the Mysterians on stage for 96 Tears. I don't even care whether it's good. It's just fun.
