Cats are the Best

If this video doesn't make you want to adopt a cat you have an icy heart. (Watch until the end.)

I used to use that video clip in training classes I used it emphasize how something that seems easy can go bad very quickly. For the record, I do love cats; we have 3 rescues as part of our family.

Probably the first intimate contact from another living being that guy ever had.

That's every cat our family owned when I was a kid. I never really thought of cats being "friendly" like most dogs are, they were just very tough animals, only semi-tamed, fully independent and capable of living in the wild, critters that you didn't mess with.

My current buddy, who was rescued from the streets, is a sweetheart.

My poor departed buddy was even more so. He used to sleep pressed up against me nearly every night.

Cat's shouldn't be on a leash. I've done many years with cats, and litter boxes, and cat spray on valuable items in the home, . . . never again.

I like how the handler calls him sweet and the pet of the week. "Hey kids! Look what mom brought home for you!"

Seriously...I know what you mean. After my first cat succumbed to lymphoma I did some trail adoptions of rescues. The first one was a cool guy, but way to high energy for me. He had two speeds: 0 and 11. When he would nap I would tiptoe around the house so as not to wake him up just so I could have some "me" time. He ended up being adopted by a couple from NYC. Perfect place for a guy with his "cattitude."

The second one was a total basket case. He hid under furniture for the first couple of weeks whenever I was home. Once he did finally start making his way around the house he started peeing on things to mark his territory. He was too far gone to be an indoor cat. (Don't know if he ever had been at some point in his life.) The woman who runs the rescue group where I got him was planning to send him to the farm owned by a friend of hers. She has a big barn and takes in cats that cannot adjust to life with humans.

Some cats like it. I have seen people using harnesses to walk their cats like dogs.

Been thinking about it myself since my guy once lived on the street (He was captured, fixed, let go and then rescued.) and loves to go out on the back deck. He also tries to get out the front door. I am just worried that he will find a way to squirm out of it.

No kidding? That's cool, my cats never like to be restrained whatsoever.

The best thing I ever did for my cats was installing a cat door on the back door and training them to use it. No more litter box, and they were free to come and go as they pleased.

I was referring to the handler...

This looks to be an animal control officer "displaying" a cat that is up for adoption.

It's obvious he hasn't a clue as to how to handle a cat, likely doesn't know this cat well and that Pinky certainly doesn't know the handler well, thus is nervous and desiring to be somewhere else, which he is able to achieve in short order.

Good for the cat.

I have 4 house cats not by design 2 originally then outside cat lost a leg so tripod moved in then a neighbor moved left me another. A walk up outdoor cat that is an excellent mouser. Then the traveling renegades that go from place to place to get some food. Overall they are clean and are loyal to the litter box and are great scorpion detectors.

Oh, no, and I let my kitten watch the Pinky video.

She's been getting her collar and leash training.

I got Parsley from the Animal Shelter, she had been there for 45 days and they were about to put her to sleep as "unadoptable." Now she's 14. Acts like the highlight of her day is when I come home. An ex girlfriend left Bear with me when she moved out. The two of them love each other. He's helping to keep her young. The neighbor calls him "a beautiful idiot" and "the Derek Zoolander of cats."

I can't find a photo of Parsley on my flickr but here's Bear. He's too gentle to have killed her for this, too bad.

The cat feels like Little Ralphie from A Christmas Story I hope you let her take it off.
