What are your favorite things to say to your pets?

Ok, so I've been around pets my whole life, but it was only September 2019 when a kitten decided to adopt me as her hunter-in-chief and food-dish. And, like a little ball of fuzz, she was the one that chose me.

I find that I have several phrases that I repeat around my cat.
  • "Dis is for the Birds!" (Usually when we're doing something moderately uncomfortable such as driving, or anything else the cat is complaining about, and she can be quite vocal at times).
    .
  • "That's my finger" or "That's the hand that feeds you." (Ok, my kitten has a habit of chomping down on a finger, or hand, or thumb. Never hard, so I don't scold her, but she simply goes on to the next finger or thumb when I talk to her).
    .
  • "Latte (her name), Kitty Kitty Kitty, Where are You." (She has actually been pretty good at coming ever since about the first week. The big exception is that she considers my chair as home base. So, if she is in my chair, there is no sense in coming.
    .
  • "NO!" (She doesn't actually get scolded a lot, but scratching furniture, or digging in the sugar. I have also taught her to not eat food out of my hand as I'm filling her dish).
I do take Latte out in pubic a fair amount, and have noticed a few different dialects of interacting with pets. For example, I use the "Kitty Kitty", while others use "Meow Meow" as a greeting.

So... What are your favorite phrases you tell your Dog, Cat, Goldfish,

I lied to Bear the other day, said "you're so smart!" He looked pleased. No one has ever said that to him before.

My dog knows lots of words.

"This way" means change direction
"Whos here?" means there will be someone to smell shortly
"Do you want to go outside?", "Where is your leash?", "Walk", "outside" means its time to go out
"Do you want to go for a ride?" Get in the truck
"Stay"
"Treat"
"High Five"
"Where is your toy?" Time to destroy a stuffed creature OR chase a ball
"Squirrel", "Dog", "Kids" - Need to defend the house
"Shh" Bark some more
"Relax" Wonder why master doesn't share my concern with the situation
"Hey" Stop whatever your doing. Most often used when off-leash or "Stay" needs a little more time.
"Are you hungry?" Between 4:30 and 5pm this is a big deal.
"In your box" Time to go in the crate. Generally, the door stays open. This is where she is right now, but she went in on her own.

I talk to my 17 yr. old female cat a lot, shes's the "Poulaki mou", which is Greek (my wife's Greek) for "Little Bird". She's a petite cat, fits her.

The other female cat is Cookie, who we call Cookoo, for as I've discovered with calico's, they are all a bit nutty.

I haven't even seen Stripey in person for a few daze now. If 'Meow-Meow'/Stripers would just meow back...

I will say that most people that I meet are amazed at my "feral" Tortie's disposition.

I tell her that she is the most feral cat in the world... a mini tiger (with the tiger stripes on her legs)... But in reality, she is very sweet.

I regularly take her shopping, and people ask if I have a dog hiding in my coat.

I'm hoping that she learned a new trick today that would put @StupidlyBrave's dog to shame. I started rustling the cat carrier, and she got up and headed to the litter box. We'll see if that was a fluke, or something she actually learned. Of course, training her to go outside in the dirt has been difficult. I did see her pawing the sand near my brother's store, but he has been picky about pets on his property so I promptly put her in the litter box.

Grandma had trained her cat to use the toilet. I had thought about that, but haven't done it. Of course, cats are much better than dogs at using toilet paper too!!!!

I sing 80s metal tunes to my cat.

Well, only two, actually:

Jet Kitty Woman:

and Big Kitty Nights:
(this one might get a little NSFW at times, cuz RockNRoll!!!!)

She doesn't care for my singing much, though:

"Hello, handsome!" when I come home.

"Handsome boy." when he's getting brushed.

"Hush yourself!" when I cannot get the food in his bowl fast enough.

At the moment I'd just be happy if Stripey would just meow somewhere, I haven't seen my cat in well over a week and have no idea who eats the food I leave in the feeder.

A couple times a day I give her my Redd Fox impression--"You big dummy!"

When she gets tangled up in her leash, when she tries to roll in bird poo, when she gets herself covered in burrs...

...when she tries to eat garbage off the ground, when she tries to dive in a mud puddle,...

Doesn't matter what I say to him. This is his most interesting dog in the world pose, "I don't always listen, but when I do, I really don't care what you are saying."
