Apparently that new heart works pretty well.
Interesting story. If I'd stayed in the Navy (I was a Hospital Corpsman), I might have been on the team that arranged to get permission from the family to donate the flight surgeon's body for organs and tissue. The second half of my Navy stint included working with a team that handled the harvesting of donated organs and tissues, mostly from the SoCal region military facilities. Most donor cadavers came from similar incidents -- head injuries incurred during training . Many folks don't realize how dangerous it is just to be in the military, and most injuries occur in training and routine performance of duties, not just combat.
