John Prine song notes

Prine, himself, seem not to have mentioned that meaning (there seems to be quite a lot from Prine talking about his songs.

This mentions it too but it appears to be taken from jpshrine.org.

I had read this meaning on YouTube comments to either a cover or possibly one of JP's video's, cannot recall. Might be wishful thinking that John actually meant this meaning when he wrote the song, but it did make sense in terms of what the song is about, so I'm OK to believe it.

I have been listening to all the you tube videos of this artist’s work and it is good stuff. I wasn’t familiar with him and I am sorry that he has passed.

Yup, a metaphor that reminds me of "Midnight Special..." same notion. I had to look up what "angel" meant early on... and it drove the song home for me too.

I never knew John Prine nor ever met him. Yet, I feel a great sense of sorrow with his passing. I've been a fan from about 1972.

This is one of my favorite recordings of

I thank my brother for turning me on to the countless gifts of John Prine, many years ago.

Somber at first, I listened to the man through an entire night shift last night. Just me and Prine, burning a midnight candle, thinking, feeling, musing. Alone amongst hours of office paperwork.

Then I realized, quite simply, that folks of John’s caliber, true artists, real poets, generous teachers, warm hearted friends... Are eternal as far as eternal goes.

I find that to be a certain kind of love, and I find that to be comforting. I find that joyful. And so I thank John Prine too.

Several of his songs could, and still, bring a tear to my eyes. I am a better person because of his music.

Same here. I had heard of him but didn't know much about him until now unfortunately. I'm kind of surprised as I do listen to similar artists like John Hiatt, Bonnie Raitt, Dylan, etc. I've been binging his music on Pandora and Spotify for the past several days.

RIP

He will always have a place in our home because our son plays just about all of his songs. No matter how popular he is, all of his concerts always seemed intimate. The kind of guy that anyone could talk to. Great story tellers are always hard to find, but he was the best.

There was a YT special last night, some remarkable artists covering his music or music about JP. The Vince Gill song was very special. I’ve listened to John for near 50 years, had forgotten all the great stuff he wrote. He could state in a single line what Bruce Springsteen puts into an entire verse.
