Neat website lets you look at historic aerial photos of your town back to the 40s/50s

This viewer lets you look at old road maps and aerial photos from all the back to the 40s/50s. Some larger cities you can peek back into the 1920s. It's pretty fascinating to see old cities prior to highway development or what your house looked like before it was built.

You can also select compare on the left tab to compare the newest aerial viewer to any other year.

Here is an example of NYC. The colored circle area is the most current image and you can move it around with your cursor.

Example 2: O'Hare International overlay

One of the map options of our county GIS is aerial photos back to 1937.

Interesting. My house was built in 1950, but the maps only go back to 1969. The biggest changes I could see is there was an addition between 1969 and 1982, which I knew about, but didn't know when it happened. Also someone planted some more trees on the property. You can kind of see them grow over time.

I am in a mobile home, purchased in 2017. The maps of 2016 there is no places along the road I live on, yet there were 4 previous owners of my 1976 mobile in this location. I purchased it off the park owner as it was confiscated for back lot rent. So that's 4 different owners and one takeover for not paying lot rent for how long as there were 3 previous owners for that year.

I think the map isn't up to date with my area, LOL.

I had a link on a computer that was replaced at work with a great site for seeing aerial photos that didn't have watermarks all over it, but I lost the link when I came in and found my computer was replaced. I've been trying to find it since. Got a little excited thinking this was it.

What the German and Japanese bombers would have seen, had the war not gone our way.
