This week is going to be pretty mild in my neck of the woods, but I'm thinking about shaving all of my body hair off and removing the sleeves from all of my work wardrobe.

Seriously, when I moved to Texas the plan was to stay at least five years. We made the mistake of vacationing in Norway. After weeks in the cool green, when that plane was descending into the hot dry brownness called west Texas, the wife and I looked at each other and telepathically said nope nope nope. No more 115F time trials for me, baby. 50 and rain is just dandy.

I got a spare 4 ton Goodman condenser, Hondo. Only 2.5 years old and worked okay up to June 12th. It's all yours, if I can remember where I put it.

Oh yeah, it's in the dump now.

Yup I can稚 wait for the AC to die. The one I知 worried about is 18 years old but still cooling. When I want something that I really don稚 need but just want it something breaks. That is how it goes sometimes.

I talked to a pair of AC repairmen the last couple weeks how I was dissatisfied with the Goodman being filled with Chinese parts, even though it was assembled locally in my county. They said no modern built AC component will last as long as the true American made units from the 20th century. Basically, we consumers should expect currently made AC units to last up to 10 years. Then there's that 2.5 year old Goodman that one mid 40s y.o. AC repairman said regarding the noise, "I've never heard a Goodman sound that bad before."
Just my luck, trying to buy local and help the home team.

A couple weeks ago, my wife's friend brought over a blower that wasn't working. I replaced the run capacitor on it for just under $8.00. Thar she blows. Again.

I have yet to imbibe in the legal stuff. I hear from reputable sources that people of my generation who try today's offerings are unprepared for the potency. I suppose the illegal weed back in the day was cut a dozen times.
Where I sit right now on my balcony it's a nice 71F, there are more trees than I can count, and not a mosquito to be found.

[QUOTE=FiftySix;21548491]My AC before the 2.5 year old Goodman was a Rheem from 1989 and original to my house. It was still working in 2017 when I had it replaced due to a horrible start up and shut off noise.

The recent replaced unit is a Ruud with a 10 year warranty like you said probably with Chinese intestines. So far so good we will see at year 10. Maybe old school suffering at grandpa’s house with full metal fan loud as hell was how the tougher people were.
There is a reason we are living longer than ever it is call AC. The heat doesn’t bother me during the day but when it is sleepy time I want cold air.

Been around the block
Today.....overcast, foggy this morning, and in the mid 50's, with the sun finally breaking out around noon, sending the thermometer just over the 60 mark. I'll try and box up some of this cooler weather and send it your way.

The giant fan could use a block of ice sitting in front of it, or even the smallest mist emitter. Pretty low humidity where you are? If so, the swamp cooler thing works.
As far as the "legal stuff..." the old stuff wasn't "cut," it just was a low grade crop... had not been cross bred and cultured to produce the current strains. Now having said that... there was, back in the day, the stuff out of SE Asia... whole different world. But mostly folks in the states, back many decades ago, only got poor Mexi weed or "Toledo window box flowertops..." And then there was Humboldt. But you are in Texas... where a "seed" could get you 20 years in jail in Dallas... (I wonder if folks are still serving time for miniscule amounts of low grade stuff up there.)
Texas... "A whole 'nother country..."
Try the mister idea with the fan... if your humidity is low... I know Houston is humid, Dallas can be too... El Paso, not so much. They use 'em all over Arizona... but then... "it's a dry heat."

Training in the heat can be just as or more effective as altitude training. I do it every year here in Florida, you really can feel a difference.

Research shows a heat-training protocol can increase cardiac output, plasma volume, tolerance to extreme conditions, and even lower your internal thermostat. This is great news for the many road racers gearing up for a summer of racing and younger people putting in the miles for fall cross country. Making heat work for you, however, takes more than laying out poolside.

Temperatures in an Arctic Siberian town hit 100 degrees, a new high...
Verkhoyansk sits on the Yana River in the Arctic Circle and, during the winter, is considered one of the world's coldest towns -- in 1892, temperatures dropped to -90 degrees Fahrenheit. Average June temperatures in Verkhoyansk reach a high of 68 degrees Fahrenheit, so the new record-high temperature is alarming.

Bet they don't even have air conditioners there.
