Elliot Lurie got lucky that night. Wearing his shirt Thomas Magnum style. And he kept warming up his tongue in anticipation.

I've known a few Karens. One really was pretty much a Karen. The other hates the whole Karen cliche now but, TBH, I can see her going full 2020 Karen in another 10 years, especially if she has kids.

The third was not a 2020 Karen by any stretch. I was probably the only person who called her Karen. I was probably the only person who could get away with calling her Karen. Most friends called her Queenie. And it suited her.

So the name Karen looks to be going down the path of the names Peter or Dick.

The internet hasn't settled on the male equivalent to the Karen.

The NPR show Code Switch suggested Chad, but that's not correct. Chad is the counterpart to the Stacy.

I'm not even sold on the notion of lumping together all clueless, entitled women into the Karen archetype. A couple of years ago the Becky was the reflexively closeted racist, the one who'd call 911 over brown people barbecuing in the park or a little black girl selling bottled water on a hot day, or the black man who's a bird watcher asking a woman to put her dog on a leash. Having a couple of actual Beckys in my extended redneck culture family, that's a familiar and accurate stereotype. Her counterpart is the Bubba, whose real name is Zack. Or the Zack whose real name is Tim but that didn't seem cool enough so he calls himself Zack.

But the Karen was more like the racially neutral PITA with the wedge cut (the Tanglewood Mom by local parlance, where blood runs TCU purple), who wields her economic clout for privilege.

The male counterpart to the Karen might be the Brett.

Peter and Dick are names for porn stars and politicians. Pretty much the same thing.

i'm surprised that no one has posted this one yet, a big 70's hit, it even got some air play down at our race shop.

I've read the male version of Karen is Ken. I'm a Ken.

I did call the police once at a non existent car thief. I was working as a security guard at an exclusive club - I'm sure a very Ken job - and some guests couldn't find their car. They insisted I call the police to report it stolen. Being a Ken, I knew their car was not stolen, instead they were just confused about which door they came in. It happened all the time, we had two identical looking entrances. They became angry that a lowly security guard, even a Ken, would argue with such exclusive people as themselves. They threatened to have me fired if I didn't call the police. So I did. Then they strolled outside to wait for the police, saw their car around the corner, and promptly left. The police came, I explained the scenario, they saw I was a Ken, and they left without further ado.

Honestly I think the male version of Karen is so ubiquitous as to be unremarkable. Here's Carly talking about one.

There are a few local Kens and it takes a mortal everything not to punch them in the face Everyone will cheer then Ken will sue you even known Ken started it but got a busted lip. Wife leaves Ken, Ken all angry soon to be x wife gets restraining order which Ken violates because he is above the law because his dad knows the cops but that fails. Ken in jail now jailbirds beat the poo out of Ken. All the town people cheer. Judge has no sympathy for Ken don’t care who daddy is. Ken dejected moves to big city a decade later returns and the cycle starts again.

I saw The Knack live during their peak. At the time they were a guilty pleasure, a band I hated to love. But, like The Cars, they were so good at power pop they were irresistible. Berton Averre's guitar solo in My Sharona is the greatest solo in pop history, perfectly constructed with familiar phrasing but tied together flawlessly. And he could play it perfectly, every time, over the decades of their live shows.

Nobody doesn't like Karen Carpenter. Anyone who says they do is lying or has serious issues. Anyone who says they don't like soft rock or '70s pop, I tell 'em to watch some videos of The Carpenters. She'll melt even a hardcore death metalhead.

And then tell 'em to listen to Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band so they can go back to hating '70s soft rock.

SVB? What about this one:

"That's the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it"

I got that sucker in my head on a long brevet once, and I went into a very dark mental place for a lot of miles.

My sympathies. My mom's nightmare earworm was the Barney Google song.

Whenever an unwanted earworm threatens infection I'll run Helter Skelter or something similar on repeat to drown it out.

Opps, sorry, I didn't mean to cause any trouble, since I usually have a Knack in avoiding it.

I liked the song due it was catchy simple song about a girl and abundant youthful male testosterone, unlike today if I want that same level of hormone, I'd have to see my doctor , and get a shot in the ass every three months. .
