Day two in Africa, also the starting day of the hike...

Some local kids that came up to us at the first gate:

This is a pic of our driver charles:

This is the official gate where we signed in and paid :

This is the jeep that took us through the really bad and really bumpy roads:

This is one of the tribes your could see from the road on the way to the mountain:

This is at the bottom of the trail where all the porters got their stuff to carry, and locals would try to find jobs:

Ready to GO! (this is the group that I went with, the guy third from the left is our main guide):

This is what our lunch breaks would look like:

These are pictures of the porters singing for us at our greeting!

The guy in the blue pants is david. He is the one who did the dancing he is fuuuuunny!

This is what the cook tent looked like: (going around: Head cook Rafael, our waiter/one of the porters Jaba(nick name his real name is clement, forgot the next guys name, and god son who was the guy who did the water and was a porter)

Awesome! Your pics remind me of many of mine, esp the gang at the start looking all shiny and new and eager (re: hela-naive). I'm curious what they did for your water supply? They would disappear into the trees or down a ravine and come back with our nalgenes full and insisted that they filtered the water, but we saw them just dipping the bottles into the creek. A lot of times we got a nice swig of algae also. We were lucky no one got sick, esp after finding a water source below one of the ubiquitous garbage dumps. We weren't thinking and left our filters and iodine at the hotel since we "trusted" the outfitter. Also good to see that you brought lots of cliff bars. We didn't bring that much and regretted it. The outfitter insisted they would feed us well, and they did, but it was food we weren't used to (buttered everything) and we ended up not eating as much as we wanted (not altitude related). We learned.

Keep the pics coming!

Just saw a Travel Channel show abou the world's most dangerous places. Your destination was on the show. Be careful. They say the mountain is really misleading and you can really bonk bad. Most don't though. You have fun.

wow, we had a guy who pumped all of our water. ALL OF IT!

F&S kiliwarrior would never do anything like that. That sounds pretty nasty!

Day 4 in africa, third day on the mountain

Because of sun burn I wore my dads hat:

This is one of the cave; that about 5 (I think more) years ago that porters had to sleep in, now the park abolished it and porters must sleep in tents.:

This is the tree that keep growing on its self. Wow I stink with names, again I dont know the names of it!:

This is the scott fischer memorial. I am not doing good with memorizing names/ facts right now. Will get back to you about him...:

This is a lava tunnel. When lava was coming through here it hollowed wholes paths in rocks like this:

This is patrick my groups assistant guide:

This is a picture of fischer camp:

BACK IN THE COOK TENT!

Nice pics so far, though they're taking forever to load! Do you have a web host that can take thumbnail pics so we can scroll through them quickly?

Scott Fischer was one of the guides who died in the Everest tragedy in 1996, captured in the book Into Thin Air. He owned the mountain guiding company Mountain Madness and Kili was one of their frequent destinations.

I do have cable internet. BUT when there's nearly 2000 folks online using Joe's server, it slows things down a bit.

Nah man, you don't change the pics... just another hosted website with thumbnail pics that we can go to. As I said in the post above, when there's a lot of poeple online, the server runs real slooooooooow.
