Your Best Tasting Meal After a Ride

I recently was on two long (for me) rides that lasted several hours. One was on the GAP Trail and the other on an Ohio rail to trail.

After the GAP ride, I got a cheeseburger, fries and a Coke at the Summit Diner in Somerset, PA. OMG, it was the best tasting meal I've had in months (and Mrs. Altair is a great cook!). Possibly the best hamburger I've ever had.

After the Ohio ride with Mrs. Altair, we got a take-out turkey dinners (turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, and cranberry sauce) at an Amish style restaurant in Columbiana. Again, it was like the best meal ever. I don't know what it was - the fresh air, the eating outside, or just the plain hunger, but both times it was like a little taste of heaven.

What's the best thing you've eaten after a ride? What's burned into your taste memories?

Only during cool weather has food been something I've wanted soon after a ride.

The best was a Thanksgiving meal many years ago. The whole shebang cooked up by my grandma, aunt, and my mom. All the traditional food, turkey, corn dressing, sweet potatoes, etc. with a cool Shiner Bock to wash it all down. I can't remember eating something so satisfying ever again, and I've had a lot of Thanksgivings since then.

I'm never really hungry after a ride. But cool water is incredible.

AC on right now weather in the 80s then the heat will be on lower 30s tonight. So cool weather riding is here which means longer rides then massive hunger. A cheeseburger with salty fries seems to perk me back up. Not a health food but at that point it’s just restoring the vitals.. sometimes Mexican food is great with enchiladas and tacos with iced tea. On the GAP trail it’s was Arbys with curly fries, that area of the US has too many Arbys. On the Katy it was a few slices of pizza at Caseys stores..

Depending on weather, a triple chocolate iced mocha or a cold or hot dark chocolate milk drink ftw!! After a hard ride most satisfying and good for my body are an all natural peanut butter on a whole grain bagel and sweet potatoes and a nutrient balanced salad.

Impossible to pick only one. But the buffalo brats after a week long supported tour in ND were quite good. So was the walleye in Ennis, MT, back in 2016.

When I am touring I like to cook. This pasta dish with chicken sausage, fresh garlic, red onion, fresh spinach and tomato sauce last month was yummy.

Or cool beer... I used to do these really long weekend rides up into the mountains east of San Diego, when I got back into the city, my go to was a Grolsch from the local corner store.
