5G: the conspiracies and facts
I just 'ended' a friendship when telling an old friend that the 5G tower at the end of her street was not a health concern ... but great for her network speed in her house. She let me know that she's painting the house with a 'special' paint that will block 5G signals
I let her know she just needs to buy a century old house with plaster walls, solid wood floors, and stucco siding (I have signal issues with my old house). She got pissed and 'unfriended' me when I said YouTube is not a a reliable source of accurate information and that if the study use some type of double-blind technique, it's just snake oil.
I'm totally surprised by (& not at all) the conspiracies around 5G. So much stupid out there. I know that 5G has been has been in development for 12 years, it's not "new" ... just new for consumer applications.
Anyways, anybody know of any peer reviewed research on health issues related to 5G, I couldn't find anything other than what Karen shared on Pintrest.

The paint scam is back again? That's some hucksters selling a 'metallic-infused' paint that'll create a faraday cage inside the area you coat with the paint (no, its not that simple to create a signal-isolated area). There was also a guy a few years back (when 4G came out) that was selling a combo wire mesh and coating material for the same purpose. I co-worker who owns a triplex had a renter who wanted to coat the inside of their apartment with that stuff - he said no.
5G? I'm not worried about it. There are worse things around that can cause cancers and diseases. If you're really paranoid abut it you'll love how its used in this sci-fi video short:

RF engineer here... OK I honestly have some schools of thought about this...
ONE) by the time this sort of RF does you any harm, you'll have died of something else anyway... most likely heart disease from not exercising.
TWO) we really do not know the long term effects of all the various electromagnetic waves we have created and are surrounding us...
THREE) OK go live in the country, off the grid, far far away... like maybe in Idaho, in a shack... write a manifesto... sure, that's it.
FOUR) I actually work in a Faraday cage from time to time... they are fairly easy to create, but you need good copper screen, not that fiberglass stuff they sell at HD.
FIVE) your microwave is more dangerous.

Oh yeah, SIX) Don't buy a 5G phone... leave more bandwidth for the rest of us.

I hit nearly all these points with her before she got fed-up with facts, science, and stuff not supported by Karen. I did recommend a Faraday cage ... she thought I was mocking, but that's the solution if you really want to block wireless signals.
I might have gotten off on the wrong foot by talking about microwaves being worse and sharing this classic clip from Taxi

Why would anybody paint their house for 5G when you can get one of those $600 USB sticks to protect you?

But yes, your second comment is really the biggest issue... and part of the reason we have to have stupid warning labels/tags on everything.
"Not to be used for the other thing."
"Batteries not included."

Oh and there is the aspect that people are generally afraid of that which they do not understand...
I was explaining 4K TV to my wife the other day, and she asked "but is it 5G?" I gave up.

but your 5g phone will give you brain and head tumors
A National Center for Biotechnology risk assessment from this past summer concludes there is no evidence of adverse health effects at exposure levels below the guideline restriction levels. ....and 5g is well below ICNIRP risk levels

The problem is the way the different service providers are implementing 5G. Verizon is doing it at a much higher frequency... which limits the distance and RF penetration, but offers tremendous bandwidth. ATT is trying to meet that bandwidth at a lower frequency, and use existing 4G equipment, by merely using multiple 4G channels simultaneously. (I don't recall the T-mobil plan, but then they just acquired Sprint, who operates at a higher frequency anyway)
Of course this has resulted in some interesting issues and bragging rights... AT&T is bragging that they have 5G in more cities (of course, as it is just using existing 4G, and more of it) but they lose some bragging rights as they do not have the bandwidth of Verizon. Verizon brags that they have "huge" bandwidth and thus faster speeds, but it only works in a few locations in a few cities, and largely only outdoors.
It all boils down to what the end game is... apparently Verizon wants to be your local ISP, and give you a wireless box on their 5G network for all your internet/communication needs. AT&T wants to continue being "the phone company." It all becomes rather hazy after that. Business plans, data rates, operating frequencies... bla bla bla... and lots and lots of empty "future marketing."
Frankly I use an old 4G phone, keep in touch with various contacts deep in the RF and cellular world, and really... don't give a hoot about the marketing... it has always been a lot of hype.

Here is the new cell tower I passed by on my bike this afternoon. Is it 5G? My phone had full bars now at my house I have 2 bars which is better than before which was none. Cell coverage while riding in an semi to very isolated area brings a bit more security in case I need to receive or call for whatever. It is an AT&T so far.

A guy at work emailed around a thing about how 5G affects blood oxygen, and was therefore related to the covids. Trying to read between the lines, I was guessing that perhaps a legitimate study out there somewhere said something about 5G and blood oxygen, and then crackpots ran with it. But I don't really know. Anybody else know what's the deal with this blood oxygen thing?

They also forget their own Wifi-router and the radios (BT, WiFi, and 3g/4g/5g) in their phones which are much closer to themselves, and hence would affect you much, much worse if anything they're saying was even remotely true.
Thunderf00t on Youtube have made some really funny videos debunking various 5G myths and claims:
