My wife and I started a week ago, cleaning the basement (there's a story to that), that got me motivated to do what I've wanted to do for the 20 years I've been in this house. I also had a collection of pegboard holders I wanted to use. Put up pegboard (12 ft of it) added some parts from Home Depot, added 3/4" finish grade plywood to extend my work table (that's a re-purposed 3ft x 6ft butcher block former kitchen table as the base. Started collecting all the tools that were stashed away in no order in assorted tool boxes (10 tape measures, 7 levels of ​​​​​​assorted sizes, 2 caulk guns, 3 hacksaws, you get the picture), etc....Going to get some more holders, hammer holders, trays etc... to improve a bit. It's great.

That was a blank cinderblock wall where the pegboard is now.

How many levels does one man need?

Respectfully, I say very neat and organized.

But then I think, "I hope that's not where he's leaving that vise, because, "how will he install a freewheel removal tool and spin a stuck freewheel?". And, "what if he has to pop a tight cotter pin?"

Then I count 6 levels and ask, isn't real estate valuable in New York so why not use it for valuable items like bicycles???

Where are your combination open end/box end wrenches, by size both SAE and Metric? Holy Toledo, don't tell me you grab all bolt head and nuts with what have up there!

So OK, I can see the levels require an explanation. My wife is a scenic artist, was head at a major TV network before it closed. They closed out the scenic construction shop and threw out most all the tools. Is why we have 50 some odd rolls of blue paint tape and assorted other tools including 4 levels she brought home. I also have about 200 spare sawzall blades. Actually she didn’t “bring tools home”. A truck showed up. 4 sawhorses, a shop vac the size of a mailbox, etc.....

That was pretty neat and organized. It is also good to place labels too. Thanks for sharing!

Although I have to chuckle... I have boxes just like that... but all the hardware is in bags, tossed into one big box. Gee, sorting... what a concept. :eek:

How are you going to know what you have if you don’t root through the collection every once in awhile...I have found more stuff that I didn’t know I needed, while looking for something else...

Forgot.

All that was there was the 3x6 table you see under the plywood countertop and the cinderblock wall, also below counter level. I had to do a lot of drilling into cinderblock to install 2x4 with toggle bolts. Lot of work that bit. Strange thing was the former owner (20 year ago) had a pegboard system or tool hanger system up as there were some holes in the cinderblock already. He seemingly took it all out, that had me puzzled.

What's an LBD ?

An LBD keeps CF from assploding. You know how CF assplodes, right? Load Bearing Decals keep it together

I cut the labels off so I can remember exactly what is what. For most things it's pretty obvious but for some stranger or smaller items I find it useful.


I can't tell you the number of times I've KNOWN that I have something, but can't find it for a job and have to buy more (only then of course to immediately find the old packet).
